Alright, this thing on? K, let's get straight to the point. Title is pretty self explanatory, if I ignored any rules by posting this then take it down. The whole Avali forums started out as a way to discuss the Avali, but I can't be the only one who still plays as on in Starbound. There are no Avali servers, so I saw this forum and figured why not make a suggestion for an Avali server on the Nexus? Yes or no? And if anybody has suggestions on how it might work, post in the comments or something, mainly because I cant host the server.

The funny (and sad) thing is that we used to have a server... It was great but died out over time, unfortunately.
However, now that there's a stable out, it would be a good time to see if everyone's interested in a new server...
Of course we'd want to wait for a lot of mods to update, and even then Starbound's a laggy mess... hrm...
Eh, I dunno. I'd be up for it, but lots of people here seem to be very... unenamored with Starbound lately.
I think it would be cool just to have a general Starbound server, maybe, not focused around the Avali (yes, blasphemy!), with multiple races (including Avali, obviously), lots of mods, get people in from the SB forums and such too... I dunno, it just seems like the kind of game that would be great for large-scale servers (the exact opposite of Terraria, funnily enough, which is far better with minimal people in my experience)

Edit: I'll just go with yes for now.

Heresay! Non-Avali centric on a forum for the Avali-lovers of the world? My god! The humanity! *coughs* Erm, yes. Well, anyways, I'm glad that my suggestion is rolling now, and has at least minimal attention(that isn't negative). I agree with all of your points, but I dont want to make a mod list until it starts (if it does, that is). I mean, obviously it would need the Avali Triage mod, and maybe Peglaci, but IDK what else you guys would want. Maybe another thread for mods if the server starts? IDK.
I'm totally in for an Avali server. It's quite lonely at times. I wouldn't mind having other races as it's nice to meet other people. We can start with the most popular race mods and add more along the way.

Agreed, although needless to say, race mods alone wont draw people in. We would need a wide array of mods, primarily those that would appeal to a wide demographic. On top of that, we should first worry about how to host it (it being the server), seeing as to how I myself lack both the required experience, and the required monies. Oh, and the fact that my computer overheats and basically explodes under too much stress. Although its good to see that more and more people are into the idea (for once my idea hasn't been shot down within ten seconds. Nice change of pace). I cant help but worry though, because even though a handful of people have seen it, only a pinch have voted and made themselves known.
I've actually been looking for an small roleplay server with the Avali mod enabled, the only luck I've had so far is the Starbound Serenity server. At first glance it seems a little complicated with a DnD paper system so I'm still on the lookout.
Got any set of mods planned, anyone? I'm no wizard but I do have a DNS service, fair computer and a lotta bandwidth.
If we do start a new starbound server, I''l see if I can host it.

I'm pretty sure everyone is connected to a DNS server...

I'll put a list of mods below that we could start with, maybe add some more on as time goes. If anybody has suggestions, tack em' on the end

GUI Mods:
Basic Race Extender Mod (Do I even need to explain this one?)

Race Mods:
Avali Triage Race Mod (See above)

Peglaci Race Mod (Very popular, most downloaded race mod)

Misc Mods:
Frackin' Universe (Just a bit more to see and do)

Avali Dye Mod (Reasons)

Avali Dye Mod Compatibility Patch (See ^)

Found this for your perusing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System

No-IP. pseudo-static IP address and technically a DNS "service". If you can host, though, that's a far simpler route for me and I'm happy with that.

As for the mods, sure! I have a few more I'll use, let me pick out some for debate when I get home.

E: As a race selection menu, I use ODB2. Works fine.
"Over 9000" and "blink through" are two useful tools for building activities, along with Spigot which is essentially a liquid spawner.
For blocks, I use Greebles and Hull plating blocks to expand on material-oriented design capabilities.
None of them are essential and I'll leave it up to your trialing. Tongue

Sorry for the late reply, just got back from school. Don't leave it up to me to decide what mods we should have on it.  We need to decide as a community what we need. Now, mind you, I don't think Spigot would be very fun. I mean, sure, it's good for builders, but also for griefers, and plus, that kinda removes the need for desert planet exploration, because you can just spawn Oil infinitely. I dont think there should be any god items. Kinda removes the challenge. Also, on a different topic, more Avalimotes!  Big Grin

True enough, constructive tools may not be as necessary as I imagine them to be, though a logon system could always work. Create serverside login profiles and send them to users from the community that want to play. If someone from within the community goes destructive? Well, yeah, I'll leave that up to your imagination.

I'll use my chainblazing powers on them.

Oh yeah, dont forget to vote.
I actually am very interested, reading every update to this thread. I just got started playing with the Avali triage mod this last week or so; and I'm not familiar with all of the add-on modifications and compatibility patches. I wish there were something I could do to help in the set-up process but all I can do is wait and see what happens. Very excited though!

Sorry for the late reply. Dont worry, a lot of people dont use the add-ons for the Triage mod, so it isn't an issue. And if you wanted to help, just pitch ideas or something like that. Even just voting (even if its a no) helps.
I did vote actually! I don't have really any ideas other than starting fresh with a new character once the server is up; but that's just my personal preference. Despite all the frustrating placeholder outpost quests I do enjoy the new character experience.
Found a way to host a server, and this method is pretty easy to use (and free!), although I dont know if it would work 24/7.

Yeah, I've heard about Evolve (evolv3?) Haven't tried it personally, but it's definitely worth a shot. If Harakhti isn't up to hosting I can always give it a shot.
Cool. That would be a huge help. I also found a few more mods for the server, so I'll list them here:

Race Mods:
Kirhos (Kinda similar to the Avali)

Utilities:
Enhanced Storage Light Edition (Lets you move things around in vanilla containers)
Micro Door Block (Useful for building custom door shapes/sizes)
UpgradeStation (Lets you upgrade weapons and armor so that they are more useful)
More Food Mod (Enhances cooking/farming)
Hand Shotguns (Adds weaker, one-handed shotguns to the game)
Alright, I'll download those tonight and see if I can get the server working; exploring wormhole space in EVE at the moment so it'll be a few. Just going to scan down this system and camp here.
Checked out Evolve and it seems like the solution offered means all players would have to use that service. I was hoping it was like a free hosting solution for a small group; unless everyone else in this thread was interested in signing up. If that's the case it could work. We should probably have a discussion on what mods to use and which ones to pass on; for the most part I only run with race mods. Still, the nice thing about Starbound is how much you can change to your liking with mods.
