Not my cup of tea, but does sound like a joy to those who like such things. Can't even handle the simplest RTS. I'm one person, prefer to work with close allies. Not command hundreds.

I should have mentioned that sword of the stars is turn based on the strategic level, which is pretty good for people who are bad at split second decisions.

After all, throwing is it's own damage type and it has two (pretty lame) armors already - why not expand it into something people want to, and can, play from the start to the endgame?
Any armor, weapon, weapon type, accessory, rebalancing, etc. suggestions and constructive criticism are welcome!
i could have sworn that javelins stuck into enemies and made them take damage over time...which would have indeed be very cool to have as something constantly viable.
also molotovs. though they got FUKT in one of the 1.3 post-release patches.
They do stick, yeah.
And Molotov Cocktails WERE (and still are) very powerful: now they take the mostly rare pink gel to make.

I guess pink gel burns better?

Using specialized fuel means it's not really a Molotov anymore it's just an incendiary grenade.

Well, the game never explained why you can use various fish as tools so I guess we shouldn't question it.

Bone tools are a thing and without machining equipment I can see fish bones as a stopgap precision tool.

If it was only the bones, maybe. But you are using the entire fish as a tool.
it's a proven fact that as time goes on my battlestation will degrade into an unmanageable mess.

I like that stein.
Thanks, I won it in a raffle when I was a kid, it's pretty cool.
for some reason I keep thinking the Morrigi would qualify as vaguely relevant on the Avali Nexus
SotS makes it surprisingly difficult to extract the artwork of the morrigi but I managed to get these
So apperently the XM214 Microgun is actually quite small
I bet you could fire it like any other LMG if the recoil isnt that horrible.
So Starsector's nexerlin mod allows you to edit a player faction to be whatever you want, which means I'm getting a crash course in modifying basic values in java code.
observations:
the game draws from several pools of themed ship names found in ship_names.json, with each faction having a priority value for each pool it draws from.
I have no idea if the game simultaneously checks the base /graphics/ folder for portraits and then every /graphics/ folder in the active mods but it seems to need no further address for each captain portrait than just /graphics/portraits/portrait_name
The game builds fleets around roles assigned to each vessel in the .faction file, with a priority value attached to determine rarity of the vessel.
jesus fuck my head is spinning I'm trying to cross reference code from a dozen different people to edit a file originally made by a totally different person.

At least it is just values. If you actually had to alter someone else's
code then you would be doing more than screaming.

SSP has funky filenames that are hard to track down though, I've resorted to copy pasta for everything else but they have to be entered by hand. Also I glanced at SSP's randomization code and NOPE'd right the fuck out of that shit holy Jesus.
I dont even know how I got the idea,
but having a reversed thrust Goliath engine as the only
forward thrust is a somewhat bad idea(requires a lot of horizontal stabilizers)
