Hello! I've played the Avali mod before and enjoyed reading the wiki. Does the creator have any plans on doing a mod for a different game since the StarBound mod will not have new content?
The Avali Race Mod is made by RyuujinZERO, and is currently the highest-rated mod for Starbound (Which honestly it probably doesn't deserve at this stage). To sum it up, it adds a race of ammonia-based, feathery, sapient space raptor nomads to the game, complete with unique furniture, weapons and clothing.
The Avali community started as a lowly, calm place to discuss the mod. However, as the Avali got bigger and bigger, so did the community, until it transcended into an uncontrollable mass of RP and shenanigans (99% the time NOT canon) that is as stable as a nuclear power plant without cooling.
And so the inevitable happened. The 500 page page limit was reached in mere weeks, and the discussion thread was locked just before it could reach page 700.
The discussion thread split into two after the lock - a second discussion thread, and a brand new clan thread. The new discussion thread is the first one except the uncontrollable mass filtered out, and the clan threads are that uncontrollable mass. We're preeetty active. The average lifespan of a clan thread is 2 weeks.
As the 13rd 14st 15nd 16th 17th 18th 19th 20th 21st 22nd 23nd thread faced the wrath of the mods, it was high time to get the fuck out of the CF forums. So here we are. On the second thread.
We killed threads upon threads, went through legendary adventures, faced down Iblis himself, and finally...
...we've left the CF forums. Probably for good.
ALSO EHKS IS GOOD AT MAKING DECISIONS YES TOTALLY THE MERGE WAS THE BEST IDEA EVER.
this is so we can keep it all relatively in one place to talk and discuss.
I've played some Dungeon World DnD with some friends, and I've got some understanding of the rules and how it works. essentially, it's way simpler and far more fast-paced and story focused Dungeons and Dragons. which i would think fits nicely into an RP... somewhat.
now, I've already got some ideas for essentially a multi-person DnD world where people could go around and either just explore areas themselves, team up with others and delve into dungeons, visit towns and such.
how exactly it would work i've not 100% settled on yet, but depending on if people want this or not we could talk about how that would work.
now it would be a semi-medival setting... without Avali... yeah, sorry, if people REALLY REALLY BADLY want them, i might find some way to shoe horn them into what i currently have in mind... but most of the lore wouldn't hold up, the avali are made for a space-sci-fi setting, not a medieval dungeoneering setting.
though because it is a DnD thing, it would use the Dungeon World character sheets (i'd be pretty open to bend some rules about what class can be what race/alignment) and people would be rolling dice to decide a LOT of stuff, everything from traveling to (in some cases) talking, even with other Player Characters, fighting and so on.
now it would require a lot of trust between the players... as cheating on the dice rolls can be done easily, and depending on how the DMing happens it could also be some power-abuse. but this might also be a good test for the newly appointed mods if things go south in that department, otherwise it might be good training with that sort of stuff.
another thing this would require by the players is two things. 1, that they read up on how Dungeon World works, this isn't too hard. there are 8 or so classes, very classic classes and the rules are simplified. 2, people NEED TO BE DETAILED IN HOW THEY ROLL PLAY. if you read up on how DW works, you'll realize that saying "i attack the wolf! *rolls success* *rolls damage* "i stab the wolf!" wont do. it would be something more along the lines of "I lunge at the wolf, sword first! *rolls success* *rolls damage* "i stab my sword through he wolf's right front leg, knocking it to the ground!"
being vague in how you describe these things will make things and best end up in a lengthy debate or immersion-breaking question that could have been avoided.
so will people be interested in this? we'll see if it works, give it a sort of test-run if people are interested.
and one last thing, it wont be as stagnant as the SRS-RP because i'll have a world area built from the start which locations that people can go to and stuff, i'd be a lot of work from me, and i'd like some help from a few people if this becomes a thing, mostly with drawing a world map, writing rules, and drawing dungeons.
and i'll probably repost this tomorrow morning... i mean in a few hours
^^ for those that didn't quite see it.
now, i'd like to have some discussion about this as "i'd like to join" doesn't lead to too much discussion.
first off, a few notes on how i'd imagine this could be run.
1 method:
I'm the Game Master, i set up a rich world with limited limitations, overview and organize things and people play with them selves and whoever else might be near/around them. i keep a decent'y close watch to the thread and update the players on how things are going in the world. such as "this king is dead!" or "food is becoming scarce as fields are being burnt by [BAD GUYS], the peasants are starving!". this method will mean the players have more control, but they would also need to be 100% honest in what they do. they'd set up their own encounters and such, and if they face an encounter that is too hard for them and they're in a position where their character could get killed by the massive giant they've placed, then it would be BS if said giant just turns around and walks away when it had the perfect opportunity to kill the player.
so this method gives more freedom, is a bit easier for me, but is open to exploitation.
2 method:
i'm the "Arch"GM, and select 2~ others to be "extra" GMs, these will follow the thread closely and stand in my place when i'm gone for one reason or another. they'd also (and i some times) be active GMs, going with a player group through the dungeon or town, giving the world around them more detail, but still letting the players be very free in what they do.
this method requires a lot more for the GMs side, including my own, and i'd have to get two good RPs that'd want to be a GM and not a player.
though no matter what version of the two we end up using, there's a thing EVERYONE will need to be on the same page about. as the GM, everyone needs to tell me of the plan they would like to do. so if you're playing an assassin/thief, and due to backstory and such would like to attempt to kill the king or a local count/nobleman, don't just do it. before you even set the plan in motion, tell me what it is you want to do and how. this is so i can make it fit into the world, and have more players be a part of it if it's going to be a big important change. maybe the paladin players get word of it in some fashion and will stand guard to protect the king? maybe the thief hires another player to help them, or maybe the castle/fort is empty one day, giving them a good opportunity to attack. i will keep these sorts of plans secret for other players, but if two players get the same idea, or one that could fit together nicely, i might bring them together so they could work out some other cool idea they both could be a part of.
another thing this game would allow is a much higher level of freedom. your character could go off alone and do shit, or it could team up with others and make a dungeon party, then when they're done, they divy up the loot and maybe some part ways to join up with others and such. some player characters could be rivals/nemesis and some could be friends or even family.
now, i'd really REALLY like suggestions and things to talk about regarding this, if you have any sort of question, please, do ask.
so... in regards to the whole DnD-RolePlay thing.
i only have these next days to really work consistently on it, making the 8-9 or so days the only ones where it would have the possibility of becoming a real thing.
now, as for things that need to get done. and remember, this is for the small scale.
1 world map, consisting of 2 towns and 6 dungeons, a forest and mountain ridge as well as a shoreline and a few scattered "points of interest"
2 town maps, these'd be very simple, just showing the different districts and such.
2 "small" dungeons. i might do the basic layout and someone will then fix most of the places it looks ugly and done in paint.
2 "medium" dungeons, same deal.
2 "large" dungeons, same deal.
(^ that stuff is mostly what i'll need help with)
setting and exposition sheet.
Jakkai race/faction.
all alignments and races for each class.
now, we'll still have to discuss a few things, such as how this will even happen in terms of GMs and so forth. but for now, that might just be enough to get started.
now i'm not requiring people to do work, but I've tried drawing stuff, and all i have is a mouse and paint. it looks like complete ass and would be unappealing to play with, i'm not asking for Tolkien-level detail, hell black on white no-color is fine, i just want someone who can draw things so they look decent enough
Please direct all semiserious, extensive RP into this topic here please.
Bit of information:
-The lay of the land.
Quote:The center of the “village” is a circular area paved with stone, about 100 meters wide, with a labeled compass rose in the center.
To the North, there is a stretch of open meadow with large gray mountains in the background, capped with snow.
To the West, there is a dense forest filled with Oaks and Pines, birds singing in the treetops. A few scattered houses and empty plots are in here.
To the East lies multiple laboratories, and a large lake.
Finally, to the South there are several bordered empty plots with a light-blue hexagram floating nearby each one. Numerous plots are taken.
Past that lies a beach with a glorious view of the ocean, as well as a wooden pier.
... For the record, I had never actually known an avali forum existed. The surprise when I found out owo
I'm a rather skilled RPer, but I feel a bit modst because that's just my own outlook of my skills. I don't know if they truly are good or not, so forgive me >.<
I'm friendly, of course. You can PM me whenever you want, I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible! (i don't bite, I promise~)
You could call me an... avali fanatic. I'm about as crazy for avali as I am for dragons and wolves!
Suggestion: Structuring the forums by topic/subject
Reason: Considering we have a full forum for the Nexus, we could give it some structure. The topics could be categorized out of the typical topics we usually post about...
For example, Videogames subforum, Art subforum, RPs subforum, etc.
Similar to what we currently have, but with new topics being possible to be opened inside a certain category.
(That's how forums usually work)
Currently, there's some sketchy version of that kind of structure, but it's sort of labyrinthic.
The randomness random postfluffs like funny pictures and similar could stay on the typical offtopic Nexus thread thingie. owo
That would make it a bit easier to track what's being talked about on each particular topic rather than mixing all the talk in the same topic, mixing up several crossed conversations in the same page, making the task of following one or two particular conversations difficult among the rest of the content.
1. This is not a forum to post random ideas and topics and stuff. Don't do that.
2. Please keep suggestions in the format provided below.
3. Other users may indeed comment and talk on suggestions. This is to allow people to get feedback on their ideas.
4. Suggestions can be almost anything, except for specific people becoming staff, and emoticons (note: This rule may change after the end of the Emote contest.)
(THE FORM)
Suggestion: A subforum specifically to put the rules in, and a place for suggestions in general.
Why: Well, we need more expanded rules. Also people need to not have their suggestions buried.
