That isn't how copyrights work :p - Trademarks are how you register a name or concept, also contractions of words are not trademarkable I don't think (ie. "coca-cola" is a trademark, but they don't automatically earn the trademark to "cola" by registering it) . And even then the name alone isn't enough, there has to be a shared likeness/relevance.

In this case, their "Avali" is actually a contraction of 3 sub-races of elf (Iss'avali, Araye'avali, Yehr'avali). 

No way anyone is going to mistake a snooty blue-skinned, pointy earred demi human from a soft fantasy setting. With a transhumanist hive-minded 3ft tall demi-raptor alien from a hard sci-fi setting)
