Sayin' things have gone better. well, Reks and Sego have been appointed mods, and let's all try to be better with this. subject change though: I've had a few ideas for a sci-fi DnD ruleset (doubtfully anything we'll play), and i've been thinking of classes. i've also been playing the Dungeon World DnD ruleset with a few friends, so it gave me a few ideas to start with. now keep in mind that these are rough outlines, and that most of these are just a few spontaneous ideas i've had. i'll probably fill in a bit more about the classes so far once i get the drive to do so. (PS: here's the link to all the classes for DW: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3269630/dwdotcom/DungeonWorld_character_sheets.pdf ) Rigger: a sort of mechanic-support type character, he has a bot following him around. the player get's to custimze the bot from a pre-set if positives, uses and negatives. (think the Ranger class's pets if you've seen the way the Ranger character work in DW). this character would mostly work with his bot, if not entirely depend on his bot under certain circumstances. Magi: this one is pretty short and i'd like some suggestions to liven it up, it's basically someone using Ryuujins "Science-friendly magic system". (NAME PENDING): can't find a good name for this class, though it could be cool. the player would get to customize a form of super combat armor (think abnormally strong combat armor/warframe without the spessmagijk), though it would have drawbacks, that the player would also have to select, like: it's incomplete, severely damaged, (help wanted with more negatives with this) what kind of suit and what it can do is very dependent on the player, so the player could build a high-mobility thing that would allow great speeds and movement, or a super strong tank and such, though it might require some balancing if the drawback isn't enough. trooper/soldier: the "fighter" equivalent basically, the same way the rigger and (NAME PENDING) get to customize their own class special thing, the trooper/soldier gets to customize a gun. this could be anything from a powerful hand-cannon revolver, to a big fuck-off laser, maybe a dependable rifle or something far more exotic. it could have different kinds of ammo, it could be versatile/transformable, like a mid-distance rifle that could extend it's barrle to be used like a sniper, or maybe even a handgun that could print an aerogel blade. (NAME ALSO PENDING): this one i came up with right now when i was writing, mostly having Vartans in mind, it would be a melee class, that, much like the fighter, would get to customize their own weapon. (i might just steal the DW fighter thingy for this), though a melee would often be caught at a disadvantage when others are using guns, it would have some other sort of smaller customizable thing, like a stance sort of. so if you make a jet-hammer and you customize a stance that supports "big heavy weapons" . or if you make some fancy light-weight katana sword, you could make some sort of super-ninja-samurai stance that could allow you to deflect shots like a jedi or something. of course the stance might also have drawbacks or whatnot, as i just came up with this one, it's also a bit rushed, ideas appreciated. i'd like ideas on the current classes, but also on ones that are very classic-DnD, yet not represented yet. i'd like to leave magic at the Magi class, so this makes things a bit more limiting. classes i'd like analogies of: Barbarian (might just ignore this one i think... unless you guys have a real cool idea) bard cleric druid paladin theif though any other ideas are appreciated! I don't imagine they would have much in the way of protection While the idea of a sound-sonicclass is sort of neat, it first of all don't make enough sense really. I mean sure placebo can help you if you believe in it, but if you don't, it's just music-sounds. I'd need a lot more flesh if it's going to work. They can sound awful, extremely ear shattering, or like a real human depending on how well its tuned. Also it becomes easier to make it sound more human and have better quality the newer the software is. Vocaloid is litterally Vocal Synthesis software. I don't imagine they would have much in the way of protection well the placebo effect i was more reffering to how people get caught up in music like it controls theirs emotions. Their are also sound waves that can have intresting effects on the body. In fact their is a sound at a specific pitch that if a human hears it they will die. Also loud sounds are capable of harming the environment, i imagine the class would have built in amplifiers to their armor/clothing. The human voice unaided is capable of shattering glass. Sound can do amazing things, like put you to sleep, make your more agitated, make you sad a depressed, make you motivated, or unmotivated. Combined with technology the range will be able to be much larger then an average humans. For example an ultrasound at 700kHz to 3.6MHz can cause lung and intestinal damage to mice. Also sound causes pressure which could be used as a weapon as well.
