I was bemusedly reading through the hater's criticisms of the evolution of damage-reduction in the Avali's hearing. The automatic closing of ear canal/relaxing of eardrum thing.

Now, normally, you wouldn't expect there to be loud sounds in the wild, no guns or flashbangs to speak of. But that got me thinking:
*what if some animals, prey of the hearing-dependent Avali, evolved to produce loud sounds?*
I think of it as being similar to, say, a skunk. These prey animals would have adapted to reduce the Avali's capability to hear, allowing them to escape in the confusion. In response, over the years, the Avali would have evolved a resistance to this mechanism, allowing them to more easily catch and eat said animals.

That said, if/when Ryuujin decides to start working on concepts for Avalon's wildlife, I hope he takes such possibilities into account. Oh, and if he's short on ideas, he need only ask...

Ryuu's the type to work on his own, as it were.

The idea of some species countering Avali hearing in order to not be hunted is pretty neat, though I'd imagine more would take advantage of light, since Ryuu's stated that bright/fast lights would disorient an Avali, or similar debilitating effects. Natural bioluminescence comes to mind, but on a light-deprived iceball moon like Avalon, who knows.
