They are literally just being bad at their jobs and people are just too dumb to notice or too apathetic to care. People actually buy all that snake oil salesman stuff. Well, what underhanded thing do you suppose they are doing? They are developing at a slow pace and coming up with excuses (be they false, exaggerated or true) as to why. I highly doubt it's completely false because really if you actually had the capacity to deliver a good game why wouldn't it be in your interest to do so? Like, do you really think they're sitting there going "look at all this time and money we have we could make a super awesome game but instead we're going to sit here and... develop slowly while we lose all consumer trust and revenue crawls to a halt?" Really at this point it's quite obvious the devs are well-intentioned. If they were going to cut and run or anything it would have happened by now. Having had first hand project management and software dev experience with a project team as well as lot of insight into the industry - there is a lot going on that you probably don't even realise. Do you know how hard it is to come up with estimates and stuff like that and how often they fall through in any industry? IIRC in the IT industry something like almost 40% of all projects straight up fail and are never completed. An overwhelming majority of the rest run over budget, over schedule, underdeliver or any combination of these. On what basis are you complaining anyways - you bought into the game solely on the promises of the developer a long time ago, as did I: it's caveat emptor. Not to mention the way I 'care' about this kind of thing is with my wallet. I stop buying things from the dev, stop supporting them until they become more reliable. Oh god this... Mojang discovered Vectors, which is an object that is multiple numbers bundled together, to represent placement and velocity in 3D and 2D space. Vectors have worse performance than the manual way. All blocks, instead of two-interger co-ordinates, now have vectors. One for each block. When the game loads chunks, it creates thousands of these for each block. Most of those are not needed. Instead of preventing the creation of useless vectors in the first place, they let the game populate your memory with them and then cull the vectors. This results in slowdowns when loading chunks. And let's not forget those vectors may also have useless numbers bundled in there. Mojang: from Java pro to Java noob. And let's not forget the huge series of updates simply to expose interfaces to the game's inner workings for map-makers, instead of, you know, actually making content. And I'll say this: The RPG/Adventure elements have always felt out of place. It's almost as if they were shoved in to compete with another pixelated block-building game with RPG elements... They're innocent and just bad at game development. I doubt anyone here may have played this game, and it's a sketchy topic to bring up too. Robocraft. Also an early access game, with it's own different problems. The game as far as I can tell was in development for a long time and is still technically in development. Way before it got on Steam and way before its first closed "alpha" outside of Steam. This isn't the issue though. The real problem were the mistakes the company Freejam, made to the game. Players are given the option the invest their steam money into the game's currency. Because the game is constantly changing in each update, the game isn't so quiet but is rather, filled with drama. People invested their money into an early access game because they think the game has potential and is enjoyable. Now take an update that breaks your creations, literally. A recent update made creative bots unplayable. The backlash was an absolute nuke. The biggest mistake Freejam has made because of a mistake they made earlier that wasn't resolved. Thankfully, the company and the community (although segregated and toxic), have deep passion about the game. With the mistakes the team has made to the game, most of them get resolved. An upcoming patch is to fix their biggest mistake and what they hope would revive their playerbase. The game has seen it's roller-coaster ride with fluctuating updates, good and bad. Now there's a game to gripe about. Months and months between updates and we usually get barely any new content to keep us interested, if any. They're usually just rehashing old systems like the rendering and terrain generation to make it hard for Mod Authors to update their mods with great content at blinding speed and cause the game to be even more buggy and slow.[/opinion] Yes. I didn't know about the vector thing but that sounds just plain stupid. Also they removed big oceans. WHY? Oceans were great. The next update they're doing is changing how combat works. Supposedly there will be shields and dual wielding. Now this sounds like a good update. Of course it will probably make mod makers cringe again. Still, Minecraft has been through countless alpha, beta, and full-release versions and still has like... 1 hour of content if you're fast about it. Mods are the only reason anyone who isn't a vanilla redstone afficianado / challenge person still play the game. The 1.8 update ruined a lot of builders' fun because it made metadata block texture changes a thing of the past. Bleh. Anyway, can we end these pointless discussions about which games are driving themselves into a hole now?
