I would make a note that fighters are meant to attack interceptors, which are meant to attack bombers. FACs do not fall into that category, they are meant as anti-frigate ships to defend stuff like battlecruisers, who cannot them with their heavy weaponry.
And this is where everything stopped making sense...
The reason why I want them to be called fighters is because they're bloody fighters. If FACs are not fighters, not bombers and not interceptors, then what are they?
You claim they are there to defend battlecruisers against frigates because they can't hit ?????. What are they not hitting? The frigates are certainly large enough that they could be hit by a battlecruiser. The other option would be that they are defending against bombers but that would basically make them interceptors again. And if they are defending against frigates, wouldn't that make them bombers as well?
Also, you say they are defending, yet their name implies attacking.
Battlecruisers are built to fight ships relative to their size. Their weapon turrets are too slow to hit most frigates because of their size. This gets worse with larger ships and bigger guns.
FACs attack because they usually hunt down frigates, while corvettes let cruisers come to them.
I really think you are trying to overthink this too much. You may think that space combat is the same as air combat but it is not. Yes, there is three axis of space in both. But the stable state of s plane is parallel to the ground and the edge of the atmosphere. Moving up and down in a plane can only happen do so long, going up bleeds speed, going down increases it. When you want to go somewhere in a plane, you fly straight. Planes are limited to maneuvers that are effective aerodynamically. In space, there is no drag, and moving is effected by orbital mechanics. Any attack can come from any angle.
Also, it's not like sea battles don't have similar. You need to defend large ships against torpedo boats.

They usually have more than their large main weapons. Also, I'm not saying that they don't need/have support in battle.
That isn't really defending but ok.
As if you had to tell me this. Besides, you are the one who based everything on naval ships.
If you really want this kind of realism, cut out the small craft entirely.
Rip that paragraph.

You know what? Fine. No FACs or Corvettes, since you continue to argue in the name of tradition THAT DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING MATTER BECAUSE IT IS A NAME FOR A SHIP THAT CONTINUES TO WORK REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT IT HAS A FUCKING PEFECT NAME. I JUST WANTED THEM TO ALL HAVE NAVAL CLASSES, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO FUCKING ASK?

Now you are telling me that they ARE nothing else than a name for various kinds of small craft?
Then why aren't we just using the name FAC as a category with fighters/bombers/interceptors being subcategories (which is what I suggested earlier)?
Are they different from the rest or not? Make up your mind!
RE: Nexus "Serious" RP Revival Discussion - SilverOtter - 11-24-2015
The ship class list is now now noncanon. Everyone can figure it all out themselves. I'm done here, and going to go work on fighting in space and atmosphere.
RE: Nexus "Serious" RP Revival Discussion - SilverOtter - 11-26-2015
You know what? Update on ships.
You'll get it's dimensions (as if it was encased in a a box) in meters (or kilometers if applicable), a rough description of it's shape, what appears to be built in it, and such. Your character will either know what it's purpose is or will have to find out.

Hey guys,
I was thinking about jumping back in here with my old character from the ChuckleFish RP (y'know, if I'm allowed), however I can't seem to find the thread to submit the old Bio's. Do we post them here, or in the main RP thread (as OOC of course)?
EDIT - I should also ask, what's going on and where are my jumping on points? Because 73 Pages.

Unfortunately old characters could be incompatible with the new universe. If so, you can just make one in the spirit of it.
Either way, we're somewhere close to "done", which is where people can actually make characters without missing information.
In fact, I'll cut down the amount of stuff I have to write to what people need for a character. The rest can be dished out in-rp via the knowledge system.
When we have all the info needed, it will be condensed. Hopefully.

Well the good news is that I managed to find the Bio. Y'know, if it's worth a cursory look. If not, I'll try and come up with something similar enough to the old idea.
Spoiler tagged for size.
Name: Skoropos
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Race: Avali
History: Born afflicted with mental illness, Skoropos was marked out to be an oddity long before he found a Pack. Skoropos was found to learn many basic things - hunting, communicating and even basic social skills at a much slower rate than his fellow pack members. Perhaps oddly though, he exceeded in other areas - it was joked within his pack that Skoropos lead unchecked could read and memorise his way through an entire library, though his true area of expertise turned out to be machines.
After receiving his first neural grafts and Guardian nanites, Skoropos somewhere along the line developed an unhealthy fixation with technology. He spent many long hours away from textbooks and more time obsessively tuning everyone's equipment to the point of fixation. He sang with his pack less and less, and sang more in the company of machines. Worse, his already terrible social graces worsened still. Convinced he was dragging the pack down, Skoropos was exiled, taking only a small Aerogel Knife, some basic provisions and as many of his precious gadgets as he could.
These days, Skoropos has been outside of any pack or tribe, and has yet to even attempt to resocialise. Overtime, his conditions have worsened - as needs and obsessions arose, limbs and parts lost while hunting have had to be replaced with components salvaged and loosely held together in a ramshackle manner - to the point where Skoropos could be seen as rather disturbing to his fellow Avali. His mental state may well further have deteriorated as well...
Basic Personality: As mentioned above, Skoropos lacks many basic social skills. During his time with a pack, his honesty was sharpened to the point of bluntness (making him an extremely terrible liar), he would often appear uneasy except when other members of his pack were nearby and was almost completely incapable of performing in crowds or public speaking. His obsession with machines and cybernetics however is up for debate if that was due to mental illness, or perhaps rooted in much deeper and darker psychological issues.
Outside of a pack, things have gotten only worse. Skoropos is quite, quite mad - with only his obsession with machines (and more specifically the only things he has to tinker with - his own crude augmentations) keeping him from slipping into true insanity. He has hesitated and avoided Avali Tribes and Packs alike, strongly preferring the company of machines to his fellows.
Any unusual traits (ONLY FILL THIS IN IF YOU HAVE ANY): As mentioned above, Skoropos's body is quite possibly crowned with cybernetics - crude prosthetic arms, armoured plating, primitive weapons - anything he could possibly scrape together and make work, even if it barely functioned. By this point, most of his body has been replaced in such a manner - as mentioned, be it from a bad experience hunting or (perhaps more disturbingly) because the organic component had passed being useful.
So, a few notes:
- Why yes, this was scraped together during an few hours.
- I read enough of the Wiki to learn the basics about the Oracle Cult. While it would be an interesting thing, I've left it open as something to do rather than directly incorporate it. It's a story possibility at any rate.
- Both name and age are open to adjustment. Truth be told I'm terrible with Human names (so naturally I'm even worse at coming up with names for someone else's created race), and I tried looking up information on age which I thought would be under Biology on the Wiki. If it's elsewhere I'll adjust, otherwise all I learned was the maximum lifespan being 150-200 years, so I know bugger all about their actual life cycle (and more specifically, when one reaches Adulthood), so I will adjust if needs be.
There might be need for a few corrections - I still absolutely suck at naming things after all, and even now I am not 100% on the whole age thing. I leave it up to you to determine if the character is fine as is, or if not, then what needs to be changed.
RE: Nexus "Serious" RP Revival Discussion - SilverOtter - 12-05-2015
- The last Factional conflict introductions
Fighting in space and on planets [Unneeded]
- Character examples (to avoid a mercenary rush)
- Character partial examples (to make interesting characters with story hooks)
- Augmentations
and how they work [How they work part will be dropped]
Assorted technologies unique to some Empires [You really don't need to know this off the bat]
So here's what I need to finish up. EDIT: Remembered and confirmed I already did the Hylotl overview.
RE: Nexus "Serious" RP Revival Discussion - Ippikos - 12-05-2015
Actually while I'm here...I don't suppose you've put all the finished information on a Google Document or something else I can read concerning all the current RP information? Would be a massive help if that was possible to examine.

It was done for the old one, I hope it will be done again.
So if I remember correctly...
Alliance, Republic, Avali, and Hylotl conflict introductions are done. I have Anodyne, Worlds, and Spacer to do.

Honestly, for now, if you want to start RPing I would suggest the Semiserious RP since it is currently active, and it's less strict. Definitely a better place to get back into the RPing mindset for the time being, at least until all the information needed to work things out has been presented here and is (hopefully) put into a more manageable format like the Drive (which btw we could definitely remake and should)
EDIT: which would be the RP here

Nope, there are two RPs
SERIOUS BUSINESS ROLEPLAY: This one. Strict rules and universe, full-on serious plotlines and stuff.
"Semi-Serious" RP: The one I linked. Rules are very open so long as you don't cause world-changing events on a daily basis and so far it seems almost like slice-of-life, though that could always change. I think it would be cool if actual plot happened this time, but I'm unsure of what I could do to make that happen...
