I would just like to outline how friggin huge these megastructures are. If one was constructed around Earth, it would be about 12900 kilometres in diameter. (In case that wasn't obvious, that's larger than the Earth.) Does it have to be a ring? We haven't canonically described it as a ring yet in the actual RP so it's not set in stone. Also I have no idea what a Stanford Torus is anyway. Whatever, though. Umbra's decision. Also, not sure this was seen: (11-11-2015, 02:05 AM)Umbra Wrote:(11-11-2015, 02:01 AM)Jim_Clonk Wrote: Why is it there anyway? Planet is on a weak section of spacetime allowing the portals to exist only there and in a few other rare locations. A long time ago, when the portal tech was still being tested they accidentally opened up a portal into the core of a star, frying much of the planet's surface, but they've been working to fix it. Plotholes filled!...? RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Umbra - 11-11-2015 (11-11-2015, 02:24 AM)Shaadaris Wrote:(11-11-2015, 02:20 AM)Jim_Clonk Wrote: Then it wouldn't be a ring. It'd be a good idea to make it fairly big, though... That way it's more representative of the NPC population and it's not easy to affect the whole station in just one action. Also, dunno if you saw the edit to my post a few above but I think I "solved" the mysterious catastophe thing and also why they chose that location for the portals. It's a bit further than geosynchronous orbit as well. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 11-11-2015 So there's a subreddit for skin deep, and around the same time I found that out I noticed the guy who usually posts new pages to it hadn't done so for the latest page yet. He missed this week's page too, guess it's my job now. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - SCN-3_NULL - 11-11-2015 Death by eeech http://gfycat.com/AptBoilingAfricanjacana#?format=gif way to store auxiliary engines RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - UnamusedAvali - 11-11-2015 rogue and Alpaca were both doing random subreddits. Lets just say about 90% of them are really fucked up RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 11-11-2015 what did surge do today? I hear literally nobody care about. Well worry no longer! I intend to tell you anyways. So I'd been putting off trying out the new robocraft patch because it didn't really address any of the things that made me quit, but I decided to check it out anyways and try to build a walker. Anyways mech legs in robocraft are, on nearly all levels. terrible. They jump really high, like, "hey look at me, free damage!" levels of high. They are ridiculously easy to target because THEY ARE HUUUUUGE. You cannot build around them, they take up a disgusting amount of space with their traverse distance. They feel awkward and floaty to operate, they don't make you feel like a mech, just like a bigger and easier to shoot version of the spider walkers robocraft already has. They don't actually add anything to the game mechanically besides being more resilient than the spider legs, which balances out because they're so fucking big. Quadrupedal designs have to be made the size of a house to fit a second set of legs because each set has such a ridiculous traverse range. Any substantial bot made with walker legs will end up looking absurdly top heavy. The legs are so tall and so insubstantial that there really is no way to escape a lopsided look to your mech when you use them. The same limitations that have always irked builders in robocraft, such as the number of shapes simply not possible and the inability to mount any moving parts aside from weapons and propulsion, are just made all the more annoying and glaring by trying to build with the mech legs. Basically they suck brah. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - SCN-3_NULL - 11-11-2015 down with the evil!! apparently there's a 17th century essay that suggests the rich to eat babies of the poor.......
