I'd say it did. The weapon-using looks and plays a lot smoother.
I also grinded for quite some time just to get 10 leather for a pair of boxing gloves.

Well, you didn't really specify when you asked for worldbuilding ideas.
Then just work on them if they're what you're limited to. Give 'em an enemy who can actually keep up with them.
There's still a lot of room in the galaxy for me to add a few fantastical things or lesser species, aaand the Marrians are already as close to a "worthy opponent" as I'm willing to give them, the whole point of the Tecarian military is that they're trying to be the good guys yet everyone else realizes that the galaxy keeps spinning only because the Tecarians have not yet decided to kill everyone. Introducing a new faction that can rival the Tecarians in power would just be another faction for everyone to be distrustful and afraid of.
plus I work better with a vague direction to follow. I'm very goal oriented but not terribly creative.
