That being said, what do you think of a straighter SciFi RP, where everyone starts as the crew aboard one of a intersolar civilization's first interstellar-capable ships? No Psi, no weird particles that basically do magic, no convoluted ancient alien mystery that hints at how much railroading is probably going happen. [Knocks on pseudo-door] Hello? Anybody home? Look at strange new worlds through the bridge windows, cause diplomatic incidents with more advanced civilizations, and have to use the other locker room because someone sealed an alien in the only other one nearby.(12-27-2015, 08:59 PM)SilverOtter Wrote: And I have a feeling I went too ambitious.Oooh I can do that. Unfortunately, not enough people seem to be interested for it to succeed with such a big universe and plot... As for the new idea, sounds like it could be a thing. Would probably help if everyone was in a (reasonably but not starfleet) sized ship since... well, less room for less people. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 12-27-2015 The more restrictive the sci-fi the harder time I will have being interested. Sorry. There would be multiple sapient species to choose from that just happen to be the ones you want to play. There is no explanation for this because even if I did it later it would still be made up on the spot. Since you would be the crew aboard the ship, you will need a job. This ranges from the exciting, such as gunners, who fire bullets and maternal insults at various enemy spacecraft, and explorers, who actually go down to planet surfaces and bring stuff back while avoiding dying, to the boring, like cooks, who will really just be sitting around socializing with everyone while the space souffle finishes, and guards, who really don't do anything unless the explorers bring back a hostile artifact or something. No you can't be a merc. I'll also just re-use the systems we were going to use before. Can I make a character who's that really, really uninteresting red-shirt that nobody ever remembers the name of, but who somehow survives every encounter from sheer luck? Sorry. I don't mean for it to very straight sci-fi, because then the entire thing (superluminal speeds, anyone?) would be impossible, but I would like to avoid "explaining" eldrich beings that created a do-anything particle. Just think "slightly harder Star Trek". Example: Instead of being armed with a Phazer, with the settings "stun", "shoot", and "kill", you have a gun, with the settings "no bullet", "bullet", and "more bullet". It just requires an inordinate amount of energy and, depending on how you intend to get it working, exotic particles which may or may not actually exist in any large enough quantity. In a lot of sci-fi settings I ususally just see like "let me summon my teleporting flying AI companion with flamethrower arms" which may as well be "let me summon my magical fire elemental" because it's basically the same thing at that point. Like you're literally just using "science" to explain away fantastical effects which are tantamount to magic anyway RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - kawaiiChiimera - 12-28-2015 (12-28-2015, 12:13 AM)Jim_Clonk Wrote:NASA hasn't bothered announcing anything on it yet. What can I get for 60 dollars on Amazon that's PC related and super useful? Except an SSD cause I'm not bothering with one on a rig with an i3. Here's my new stuff so far: https://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/14O90V088MF14/ My mobo broke which is why I'm getting a new one. If you don't have one you could get a gamepad (xbone controller) or a steam controller You play driving games don't you? Maybe you could get a wheel peripheral for that cost (likewise probably a decent joystick if you're into flight/space sims) RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - kawaiiChiimera - 12-28-2015 (12-28-2015, 12:53 AM)Segolia Wrote:50-60 isn't enough for a quality wheel (but maybe a aero stick), I've had this pretty crappy ambidextrous mouse so I might get a new one, then.
