RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 01-07-2016 I come to an impasse lads. I'm looking to replace 3 Tecarian walkers, the Puma, Demon, and Paladin, however I'm tripping over some key details regarding arm structure. The Puma is an infiltration unit designed around immense but unsustainable firepower and makes use of relatively advanced actuators a gyros. The Demon is a drone walker intended to spearhead assaults by demanding attention that would otherwise be better given to MBTs and is designed to be only as lethal and advanced as it needs to be. Finally the Paladin is largely exclusive to ODST units as it's lack of proper arms allows it to fit in a drop pod, but is otherwise a very crude design. Basically I'm questioning if they need articulated arms to potentially right themselves if they fall or if more compact and powerful weapon pods should go into the shoulder joints, if they fall they are most likely dead anyways but the Tecarians don't like being caught unprepared, and the articulated limbs would add a little versatility to their field of fire. Why not simply add a single basic additional limb used for stability and righting itself? It'd allow quick adaptation as a base for modification in bad situations. Plus it'd still be small enough to remain an ODSV. It'd also springboard the capability of adapting the same crude design for other uses in a pinch. Like having the ability for a dropped long range support. However I wonder if the Panther really needs that and I doubt the Partisan's current arms would be any use in righting itself.(01-07-2016, 08:20 PM)Surge Wrote: I come to an impasse lads. I considered semi-articulate arms for the Partisan like the Puma currently uses but that would shift it's high mounted weapons down very low...hmmm... I can't stand those things, especially when people put them first and foremost. Yes, you can identify whether you want to be called male or female or neither, but that shouldn't be the first thing you say, and please no bizzare half-non-double-ex-somewhat-ish-micro-gender pronouns. We already have a non-biased catch-all known as "they" and "them", we do not need 50 billion ones for every possible combination of everything under the sun. Because quite honestly, I, and a whole lot of other people, do not care what/who/when you identify as, since it is completely irrelevant to us. It's like walking up to a stranger on the street and whispering loudly in their ear "I AM A PANGENDER BISEXUAL AND I GO BY THE PRONOUNS CHE AND CHIM!!1!!1one!! THE MORRRRE YOU KNOWWW~" Sure, if your friends are interested, please, by all means, tell them, but otherwise, nobody wants to know, nor does it matter if they know. um xcus u i idetnify as a quadgender footsexual and im ofefdned u wud ues my pronouns stop appropriating my pronouns u SHITLORD jokes aside, people really should never have a "preferred pronoun" thing. that's what the "gender" field is for. don't wanna be called a he? put your gender as "female" or "undefined". it works. if you want to be a SPESHUL SNOFLAEK and use pronouns other than he/she/they shut the fuck up and realize no one will ever seriously call you that unless they also want to be SPESHUL SNOFLAEK. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 01-08-2016 I 100% respect people who go "I'd rather have a dick" or "I'd rather have boobs" in response to their current gender, more power to you or some nonsense, it's not my problem, but when you start to wish to not identify with any gender I start to think you're just damaged, then if you start inventing genders I think you're a godamn fucking idiot. I am not the least bit sorry that I have near to no respect for you if you identify as gender fluid, nongender, stargender, some-other-bullshitgender or anything in that vein, you are a he or a she to me, an it if you're into that and I'm feeling generous, but if you want me to use any other set of pronouns, especially if you invented them yourself or correct me on using the wrong one, I am going to laugh in your face because I am a godamn cunt. Your weekly reminder of why hating Surge is the cool thing to do. Anyways a much less hateful rant about Armored Warfare's classes. I feel like AW is in a really bad spot balance wise and everybody either doesn't notice it or doesn't realize it's a problem because it's the status quo from WoT. Basically the rundown is that in WoT you have HTs, MTs, LTs, TDs, and SPGs, HTs are slow, impenetrable from the front, incredibly lethal, MTs are moderately mobile, moderately armed, moderately armored (which means the armor is wholly irrelevant), all around jack of all trades tanks, LTs are very fast, have piss poor weaponry, and no armor, TDs are either moderately mobile with exceptional firepower and no armor, or very slow with good armor and firepower, and SPGs are slow, fragile, inaccurate, but can instagib you from across the map. The end result is a game that tends to punish moving forwards, if you aren't an HT and don't get the drop on an enemy HT it will almost always win, if you try to move up the game penalizes you by making you easier to detect and shoot, thus rewarding the LT that does essentially nothing, and if somebody manages to move up without being spotted the TDs and SPGs will clean up all the people rightfully cowering in bushes. It's frustrating on multiple levels and makes a very toxic community. Conversely in AW you have MBTs, LTs, AFVs, TDs, and SPGs, very familiar yes? except MTs are now LTs because AFVs are arguably even more irrelevant than LTs in WoT, MBTs are more mobile that HTs ever were and have better view ranges and accuracy, making them even more lethal, some MBTs even trade away armor to be more agile and fire faster, then LTs are an insane mixed bag, the Scorpion is fast, small, and does piss for damage because it can only fire HE, which damages through armor but is near incapable of penetrating armor and has it's output reduced by armor thickness, the Sheridan is large, relatively slow, and has a 152mm doom cannon, the BegleitPanzer 57 has a big fuckoff autocannon, the VFM is armored like a mini-MBT, and then the Stingrays and M8s are back to the WoT MT status quo of jack of all trades, master of none, AFVs are generally fast, unarmored, and armed with small, useless, weapons such as autocannons, or regular cannons without AP rounds, which means that those that aren't fast are especially SOL, TDs are fast, unarmored, and otherwise comparable to LTs, and SPGs are much more accurate and mobile but also MUCH less lethal. So to add some sense to all that gibberish, AW's AFVs are basically worthless, I shouldn't need to explain why nothing good comes of firing a 30mm at an M1A1 from any angle, or a 76mm HEAT round, or a 105mm frag round, you get the idea, so we have these less recon oriented AFVs that are more or less homeless on the battlefield because an MBT renders them completely harmless instantly, and those recon oriented AFVs are punished for trying to actually do anything. Basically you're sitting in a bush hoping you spot things before the MBTs do and don't contribute to the fight, in which case your team would be better off if you had been an MBT, you have LTs that are just under the MBTs in terms of firepower which is a fancy way of saying they can't do shit to most MBTs, so whatever you're doing in the LT your team would be better off with an MBT, then TDs have the same firepower issues as the LTs but from further away, so you'd be better off in an MBT, and SPGs have very low damage outputs and after counterbattery mechanics your team would be better off with an MBT. No matter what the role is a team of nothing but MBTs will do it better because they have more HP, firepower, and armor, this happens only in AW because in WoT HTs were balanced by being mostly blind and very slow, this is not the case in AW where many MBTs have very respectable speeds and view ranges. So every other class in AW fits into the same niche as a corresponding class in WoT except SPGs, since SPGs were called "Skycancer" in WoT for good reason, but MBTs outperform WoT's HTs in every single way and the other classes do not have any way to answer that improved ability, but because they function so similarly to WoT's classes and can make a good purpose for themselves out of fighting other non-MBT vehicles or the lighter MBTs that wander into the line of fire nobody notices anything wrong, and not only defends the status quo, but attacks any new content that breaks it.
