RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 02-24-2016 Checking messages on DA, when suddenly a wild avali appears in the comments. It never ceases to amaze me how you can just find them sprinkled about all over the place. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - roguephoenix64 - 02-24-2016 https://au.pcpartpicker.com/ So, being one of those people who give you a blank stare when you talk about graphics cards and mother boards, would anyone care to help me design a gaming PC? Something powerful and easily upgraded, preferably no more than $1500 Edit: juuuuust gonna put this on the front page again. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 02-24-2016 (02-24-2016, 02:04 PM)roguephoenix64 Wrote: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/Christ, I was gonna put together what I run more or less on there and see what it comes out to but a fair chunk of my build doesn't seem to be there at all, or is priced at twice what I paid for it. basically though I'd recommend an AMD FX-8350 for the CPU, and a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P for the motherboard, now the motherboard choice matters because the FX black is kinda power hungry as I understand so just because you can fit it on a board doesn't mean you should. If you decide you want an Intel CPU, they're more powerful on average but also cost more and have fewer cores, so it kinda balances out, you'll need a different motherboard, the UD3P will only support current gen and last gen AMD CPUs, such as the FX and Phenom II cards. For a case I use a Cooler Master HAF 912, it starts you off with some pretty big fans and has room for plenty of added cooling, installing the PSU and HDDs can be a bit challenging but otherwise it's very easy to insert and remove stuff for the most part. GPUs I'm less clear on, but as I understand it the Radeon R9 380 or 390 should give you some good bang for your buck, but you can buy it from 4 or 5 different vendors at wildly different prices, and each will have a different configuration of the card, so you'd have to ask somebody else which one to buy from. It'll look like this on the NVIDIA side too, but I've had too many years of trouble with my GTX to ever recommend one, and the R9 is supposed to perform better than the GTX 970 anyways. HDD is simple, just get something that's maybe 1-2TB to start off with, you can add more drives later if you want. 8-10GB of RAM will do you fine last I checked, so nothing extravagant is required on that front and it should be the cheapest part of any build. Optical drives are kind of redundant in this day and age but there are definitely different types that can read different discs so I recommend you make sure you're buying one that suits your needs if you get one at all. PSU I'm also not 100% on, I use a 725W PSU but you should be able to get away with a 600W, I ran my old Phenom CPU off a 400W for quite awhile, watch the efficiency rating though, I sure never checked it and that's why my second 400W got fried over a single weekend. No add-on cooling should be necessary, your GPU, PSU CPU, and case will all come with fans and heat sinks, but if you suspect overheating then go get a 120mm fan or two, they're like $20 here in the states tl;dr: CPU: AMD FX-8350 Motherboard: GA-970A-UD3P GPU: Radeon R9 380 HDD: anything with 1 or 2 TB and good user reviews RAM: just get a package from Corsair with 2 4GB sticks PSU: anything 6-700W RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Ehksidian - 02-24-2016 (02-24-2016, 02:36 PM)Surge Wrote:(02-24-2016, 02:04 PM)roguephoenix64 Wrote: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/Christ, I was gonna put together what I run more or less on there and see what it comes out to but a fair chunk of my build doesn't seem to be there at all, or is priced at twice what I paid for it. welcome to australia RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 02-24-2016 (02-24-2016, 02:53 PM)Ehksidian Wrote:(02-24-2016, 02:36 PM)Surge Wrote: Christ, I was gonna put together what I run more or less on there and see what it comes out to but a fair chunk of my build doesn't seem to be there at all, or is priced at twice what I paid for it. A quarter of the entire population died at once, then the sudden influx of corpses cuased an epidemic of disease which we couldn't hope to cope with so then another half the population died. people keep trying to move in too, so then they succumb to the plague as well. *checks* 90% of the population has the plague TIME FOR A PURGE So I'm gonna jack up taxes to 30% across the board until everyone leaves, then 90% of the population will be manageable by our healthcare facilities. How does overclocking work, and what exactly does it do? RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 02-25-2016 (02-25-2016, 04:54 AM)roguephoenix64 Wrote: Okay, what about screens? My Mac has 24 (modified)Screen isn't terribly important, I'd recommend a 1920x1080 monitor but if you can't find one at a decent price then you don't necessarily need one. Shadowplay is only any use if you want to make an upload recordings of unscripted gameplay and/or commentary, basically it records everything you do automatically so if you wanna upload something really cool to youtube but weren't recording at the time it captured it. I'm fairly certain you can get third party software to do the same thing though. RAM is generally important but you don't need lots of it, like I said 8 gigs will probably do you fine. Overclocking is something I never quite worked out myself, my understanding though is that you can increase the performance of a processor by overclocking it at the risk of stability and heat issues if you don't account for them in advance, if something claims to be overclocked out of the box though that probably just means you'll get more out of it than you would if you bought the same thing from somebody else, but it'll take more to keep it running.
