If you can't get 7 back, I would actually recommend 8.1 with the Classic Shell. It's what I use on my primary computer and it works great. In fact, I'd almost go so far as to say I prefer the combination over 7.
nope, just win 10, damn i was looking forward to getting an upgrade for my desktop and the 3month 1800Rm salary just wont cover for anything but just one beefy component, just I'm gonna start filling up my 3DS library....

RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - SilverOtter - 04-11-2016

So I finally got a good start for Dwarf Fortress Adventure mode. After my last try on that world ended in a weird death (apparently human guards really don't like it when you comment about the weather to traveling goblins), I started as a dwarf, in a camp, as a soldier, surrounded by other dwarven soldiers with a item pile nearby, in the middle of nowhere, while snow falls in the middle of spring.

But considering the only other choice was in a human town at the arse of the world, I went with it. I talk to a local, and the first words out of the adventurer's mouth is "Hello [name I can't be arsed to remember]. Long live the cause!"

As it turns out (thanks to savefile cloning and legends mode), the goblins defeated the Dwarven civilization years ago, but instead of destroying everything they just put puppet barons everywhere and took control. The camp I'm in is a bandit camp east of the mountains, established some time after the fall, whose leader is currently out on a patrol in the frigid forest.

Sometimes the procedural generation goes just right, eh?

one minute in and it's already getting funny with Surge ranting at Rommel, I'd say this is a good episode

I need to work on my "technique" for worldbuilding and stop sorting the IMPORTANT details out months after everything else is finalized

I'll be totally honest I was feeling pretty good about how Null linked ep4 before I got around to it, then I checked a few hours later and the video was at a solid 2 views....yeah....

That's completely normal for a brand-new let's player. We all go through this stage, and we all get disappointed that no-one's watching the channel we just barely launched--the trick is to keep at it.

Maybe check /r/let's play when you have some time. It's a great resource.

RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 04-11-2016

Yeah I know it's normal, Ep3 was borderline unwatchable though and managed to accrue 5 views, and Ep4 is "HD" according to youtube so I expected it to immediately do better.
I will go scrying for anything remotely useful on /r/letsplay though

edit: well...it took me an hour to find that /r/letsplay has no advice to offer me except to change literally everything I do and use, not to mention where I use it.

Well, that's typically how it is when you're just learning how to do something.

As for your video immediately getting more views because it's HD, that probably won't happen because your biggest bottleneck at this point is not the quality of the videos, it's the fact that it's really hard for people to find new YouTubers. Search engine optimization (SEO) is part of the solution, as is spreading your videos to communities that might be interested (without being spammy or annoying), but another part is just a matter of being around for a while. It takes time for people to find you.

Also, don't measure yourself by viewcount. It's not a very good indicator of whether people are watching you, especially since it includes your own views of your material. Look at watchtime instead.

SEO is the biggest thing you have control over. Add more tags and a longer description (descriptions are searchable), and try to design catchier thumbnails to make your videos stand out in search.  have a plugin that let's me see the tags on videos, so here's a comparison between the top-ranking video for "let's play xcom 2" and your video:

You:
Quote:Description: So I'm aware there are some audio stuttering issues, but presently I don't think there's much anything I can do about them, and the video is otherwise of pretty good quality I think. Enjoy the first HD episode of the series

As usual I accept volunteers for the character pool! Any entries require a first and last name (preferably something halfway believable because I'm genuinely a stickler for consistency) and anything else you want out of them. I reserve the right to reject applicants and the less detail you provide the more I will have to fill in on my own. Being in the character pool does not guarantee anything, not even your appearance in the current campaign.

XCOM 2 is the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the 2012 award-winning strategy game of the year.

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, and facing impossible odds, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to ignite a global resistance, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

XCOM ON THE RUN: Take command of the Avenger, an alien supply craft converted to XCOM’s mobile headquarters. New open-ended gameplay lets you decide where to guide your strike team, how to grow popular support, and when to combat enemy counter-operations.

RECRUIT RESISTANCE FIGHTERS: Five soldier classes, each with its own skill tree, let you create specific soldiers for your tactical plan.

TACTICAL GUERRILLA COMBAT: New gameplay systems offer more tactical flexibility in combat. Use concealment to ambush enemy patrols. Loot enemies for precious gear and artifacts. Rescue VIPs and save fallen comrades by carrying them to the extraction point.

A NEW BREED OF ENEMY: A diverse cast of enemies from powerful new alien species to the ADVENT, enforcers of the alien regime, offer a distinct tactical challenge.

RESEARCH, DEVELOP AND UPGRADE: Configure and build rooms on the Avenger to give XCOM new capabilities on the battlefield. Use your Scientists and Engineers to research, develop and upgrade weapons and armor to fit your preferred tactics.

EACH MISSION IS A UNIQUE CHALLENGE: Go on missions around the world, from wildlands to the heart of the alien-controlled megacities, to the depths of alien installations. There are virtually infinite combinations of maps, missions and goals.

CREATE CUSTOM MODS: Community-focused tools allow you to create your own campaign, tactical gameplay, aliens, classes, strategy game features, and share within the Steam Workshop.

XCOM 2 Soldier Class Descriptions:

XCOM 2 Psi Operative: Depending on who you ask, psionics could be the aliens greatest strength. Now our own operatives can tap into that same power.

XCOM 2 Ranger: The ranger serves as our primary reconnaissance unit. Capable of moving independently in concealment while engaging enemies at close range.

XCOM 2 Sharpshooter: Our sharpshooters engage enemy targets with pinpoint accuracy from extreme range. They are also trained in pistol marksmanship for the occasional close encounter.

XCOM 2 Specialist: Operating some of our most advanced equipment, specialists employ robotic drones called gremlins on the battlefield that can be outfitted for combat, or field medic duty.

XCOM 2 Grenadier: Serving as our demolitions experts, the grenadiers provide heavy ordnance delivery whenever and wherever we need it.

I'll try and make some more sense of the analytics tab, and I guess I'll just go ham on the tags section. I won't drop a whole lot of money on equipment or rearrange my desk though, at least not soon.

RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - YDH - 04-12-2016

Yes, helping people find your videos is what you should be focusing on. Your audio seems okay for just starting out. Probably better than mine was. Fancy equipment only comes after you've decided you like doing this and that you want to do it long-term.

Don't forget to share your videos to other sites. That's one of the best ways for a new channel to get noticed, but you have to do it carefully because it can easily come off as annoying self-promotion and some communities really, really hate it. You'll have a better time if you share them with communities you are already involved in (like you have here), so it doesn't come off as soulless spam.
