The funding has now reached the point where the game will feature a non-linear mercenary campaign, which may mean that there is no defined story end and you can just keep playing and amassing pilots and hardware forever. Kinda like a game of XCOM where you simply never do the temple ship assault. "The STAGE 3 EXPANDED MERCENARY CAMPAIGN puts you in full control of your life as a mercenary. The single-player story campaign is now open-ended - charter JumpShip transport for your mercenary outfit to travel to various hot-zones across the Periphery and Inner Sphere, and continue your career even after the game's main story arc is resolved. You’ll be able to choose your contracts and alliances, with both the 5 Great Houses and other sub-factions within the Inner Sphere. A procedural contract-generation system will ensure that you always have fresh contracts available, wherever your Mercenary career may take you. The missions you choose to accept and the objectives competed in those missions will determine your reputation as a mercenary, affecting the contracts and contract terms you may be offered in the future." What I find odd though, is that PvP is so high on that list... RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread 3: A crowd. - Surge - 10-18-2015 (10-18-2015, 05:28 PM)Jim_Clonk Wrote:Well the PvP will be it's own beast. It'll be a competitive small scale battle in the legendary Solaris arenas, so new venues, MM servers, a new layer of game balancing to be done, new voice acting (though if you asked nicely enough you could probably get some lines out of Duncan Fisher for free). Basically it won't be the base game but against a person. Think XCOM PvP, totally different experience.(10-18-2015, 05:22 PM)Surge Wrote: Procedural generation is for side missions, not main story missions. It's still going to get boring after a while but I guess there really is no way around that. 4 minutes of army dudes laughing at each other while demonstrating that they are truly the best their nation has to offer. I'm fond of the one where they launch a guy through a door. Not really, but people probably have bad memories of trying and failing over and over. That can leave a bit of a sour taste, even if you're skilled enough to easily beat it. Err, I meant the Health/Portrait UI. Pretty much the moment I started I was trying to drag that thing to somewhere reasonable but the game wouldn't comply. |
