Holy cropduster my writing is rusty as hell.
But I finally got around to spitting out a background RP post that quickly ties up loose ends from the previous Semiserious RP.
Decided to give up on trying to do a fitting conclusion to what was supposed to end up being the epic Samhain war storyline since everyone else was gone already and that makes it somewhat difficult.
I also took some liberties with adding in one possible explaination for how everyone ended up in different universes, sometimes in different bodies, and with different memories.
The whole Origin thing is pretty complex (and by that I mean it contradicts itself and is a general mess) so this is just one of many explainations which are all correct and incorrect at the same time. Because that's how things work when non-linear reality/unreality is involved. But also not, because the same rules that make anything technically possible also affect themselves. The set containing all things is contained within itself sort of deal, except with less sense, more untime, some bonus meta, and about the same amount of facedesk.

So, it seems like it's starting...

Wrybdeac, Sylrein, and Ebendach, their clothes torn and fur matted, stumbled out of the woods.
Sylrein was the first to speak up. “ Finally! That took way too long. Next time we go camping, we're bringing a map!”
“ Ther isn't a map to bring,” Ebendach pointed out, dropping the heavy backpack he'd been carrying to the ground. “ From what I understand nobody bothered to make one.”
“ Well that's stup-”
Before Sylrein could finish, the town in front of them erupted into a column of bright, burning white light.
“ WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!”
“ You'r asking me?”
“ No! Rhetorical question!”
The group looked up, and saw that the pillar seemed to extend as far as the eye could see.

If you're so intent on leaving, please do one last thing.
I'm done with that! Done with all of this. Just... I have to go.
But the Scribes-
The G.O.D. don't work, end of story. There's nothing I can do to fix them, and the freeloaders taking all the energy can keep it.
People are abusing the power. Some without even realizing it. You caused this, you have to fix it.
You forget your involvement!
I'm not forgetting, however I don't know the first thing about meta-machinery.
Well then just dismantle them! I don't care. They weren't doing what they were intended to do anyway.
A Minor Universe was created with the energy and it's starting to collapse. The thing has collided with other Universes and people have been pulled in, not to mention the races that naturally evolved there after its Origin was retroactively created. They are our responsibility to fix. Both of us.
A Minor Universe? Seriously? Argh.... Just... Well what do you propose?
Since the pattern has been erratic and Tsyesia refused to analyze it, I'm unaware of which worlds all the races came from. I plan to move the inhabited native systems to a dead zone in a nearby universe, and when it collapses I'll move the non-natives somewhere else and have Tsyesia alter their Origin to fit in their new home.
So you aren't even going to try to get them back to their homes? Just search and destroy? Cut, edit, and paste? You'll completely rewrite their lives. That's just not right...
It's to maintai-
Yes, yes, the balance, the universal equilibrium, etcetera. Well, I can't stop you, so do whatever. Sorry I asked. Good luck getting her to agree to help you, though.
She already has.
WHAT? Well, colour me surprised... What color is surprised? I'd say a shade of orange... Ahem, well, I'll be going now. And don't try to search for me, because I'm not coming back!
...Good day, Augur.
Good day, Magister... I don't suppose you're going to call yourself something less standoffish when y- Oh. You're gone already. I'll get around to looking when I've dealt with our mess myself.

Wrybdeac awoke with a start. She felt woozy – something no machine had any right in feeling. “ Eben...? Syl...?”
“ We'r here,” Ebendach responded from the left. “ You kollapsed again. That power pak is almost out, so we'r going to hav to figure out something soon...”
“ That won't be easy,” Sylrein chimed in, “ considering the whole village is locked behind some kind of ass-holy light barrier or whatever that is.”
“ Aren't I supposed to be the pessimist?”
“ Yes. I'm being very optimistic here – our chance of happening to find another huge, charged battery pack on the outskirts is slim, but I'm sure we can figure it out... I hope...”
The rest of the conversation was lost to Wryb as she slipped in and out of conciousness for the next few minutes.

“ We kan't just lea-”

“ have to look-”

“ Oh, you'r awake again. Sylrein's looking for a way to help you, but I... hav to konsider the possibility that she won't find anything of use. We'r inkompatibl, but I think we might hav to try and konnekt with eachother so you kan use my power.”
“ Th-thas way too dangerush...” Wryb stammered, trying to clutch her head to keep it upright but missing, “ to both of us...”
“ The other option is you permanently loosing your link and being forsed to stay hooked up to a giant battery for the rest of your life. And I mean bigger than the one on your bak. You'd be konfined to a room forever.”
“ ...”
“ Wrybdeak?... Asleep again... Sylrein... Hurry up...”
--
There was nothing. It seemed nothing had been outside the radius of the strange column. “ Damnit damnit damnit damnit damnit!” Sylrein yelled, punching a tree repeatedly. She looked over at the column, burning its way into her retinas. That was going to be the only way to help Wryb, and the only way to see if everyone else was okay, or at least alive. She started slowly, reaching out with her mind to the column of light. Nothing, not even the pressure of protected minds. She pushed harder. Nothing... Until a single mind appeared. Except it was four? But it was also two? To her surprise, it, or they, reached out to her instead, and her defences crumpled like a wet paper wall.
> Hello, Sylrein. I am... The Augur of Equilibrium. Forgive me if that sounds pretentious, I have many different names but none are quite correct, so the title will have to do.<
> What... What are you?<
> That would take a long time to explain. Or perhaps a very short time. Either way, it isn't worth it to try to do so. The same is true for the current predicament, so I'll make this as brief and to the point as possible. Due to multiple circumstances, including the hastily-made and unstable nature of this universe, every timeline of it is simultaneously nullifying itself. The Scribes – I believe you're aware of them – are being dismantled, and that is expediting this process. This village happened to be a particularly unstable point, and was deleted first. I have relocated your friends that did not escape to another universe, though their memories have had to be altered, as it wouldn't be good for anyone if they remembered and tried to find this place again – it would simply end in disappointment and perhaps even the creation of a new one, and neither are particularly good.<
> What do you mean their memories were altered?<
> They will not remember any of their experiences here, nor their life before coming here. The process used isn't well studied. If it's any consolation, they are all safe.<
> ...WHA-<
> Yes, I know that's a lot to take in, but I'm not done just yet. You're Eariskvendtea, yes? Your world started in this universe long before it was created. The details behind that aren't important, however since your worlds are native to this universe and not particularly unstable, I can move the planets to another universe. I intend to move you back there, and move it to a new universe as well.<
> Th...Why are you telling me this and not just bleaching my brain too?<
> Well, to make a long story short, you're the last ones that need to be moved, and the one doing the metaphorical bleaching is being difficult about it.<
> ...<
--
> If it's any consolation, they are all safe.<
> What kind of konsolation is that?! You'v erased their entire lives!<
> Not exactly. More overwritten. It's possible for them to remember, but for the sake of themselves, I hope that if they do, they don't try to reconnect across universes, or worse yet, make another like this. You see what's happening to this one.<
> Why didn't you just tell everyone “hey making a new univers is a bad idea, don't do that.” instead of mind-wiping them? Won't this make them more likely to repeat the mistake?<
> The calculations say otherwise, and I've learned to trust the calculations, despite how fickle the calculator can be... Now, on to the issue of the Ateros.<
> What about us?<
> As I said, the Scribes are being dismantled.<
> Oh.<
> Yes, you see the issue. Without a power source you'll be rendered inert. Well, since I am responsible for the Scribes and by extension responsible for you existing in this state, I'm willing to make some alterations. I can either edit you to connect you to a new power source, or return you to being Eariskvendtea. Ybbndagg and you would remain fused, but you would once again have an organic body.<
> ...Yes.<
> Well, that was simple.<
> This body has been almost nothing but trouble since I got it. And besides... Sylrein is organik and I wouldn't feel right not aging nekst to her.<
> So you're saying you want to become mortal to spend your life with me? How sweet.<
> Don't ruin this.<
> Very well. I suppose I should warn you that Wrybdeac chose to stay as an Ateros.<
> I can't blame her. She's never not been one.<
> I'm okay with it as long as she's okay with my desision.<
--
“ Sribawhn? SRIBAWHN! WAKE UP GODSDAMNIT.”
Samhain's robes didn't respond.
“ THE POWER IS GONE! WHAT DID YOU DO?! EVERYTHING WAS WORKING OUT. EVERYTHING WA-”
Samhain and the empty Ateros shell where the soul of Sribawhn had been only moments before were consumed by a column of light. Sheinam watched as the demon, or whatever it had been, who'd taken his life away was jerked back to the Void where it came from, and he smiled, gleefully awaiting his next life as he felt his memories change.
Sribawhn, on the other hand, was not awaiting his next life. He chose to remain as he was – an Ateros, as he'd always been, but before the memory wiping hit him he'd escaped to Plan B, the small animal-like chimera Ateros he'd prepared some time ago to house his soul should anything go wrong. And then, using his remaining connection to the breaking Scribes, now fully his without Samhain hogging it, he skipped to the next universe over. He felt his connection to Konar the Seris, who'd been inhabiting the body of Heibegsyr Sheinam, fade as the dimensional and vectoral distance between them grew too great. Freedom. Not the way he had expected it to happen, but it would do in a pinch.
--
More universally-long pillars of burning light erupted over the surface of the planet, and many like it. These pillars continued to grow in number until the whole universe was bright with burning white light, and it rejoined the nothingness and everythingness of Limbo. The same process repeated with every timeline, even those which had already passed the point where it happened. But none were there to see it happen, asides from the watchful eyes of Eternals as they saw one of the practically infinite dark points in the empty whiteness fade to match the surroundings.
--
I must say this wasn't what I was expecting. The other timelines – Sribawhn and Sheinam betraying Konar, splitting up Samhain mentally, U's plans failing time and time again or succeeding, bringing an end to the looping. Ezvrael giving his life to seal away an empowered and maddened Sribawhn... So many possibilities, and yet these timelines never had a chance to play out. Oh, yes, Eltereavean and Ezvrael... They're fading fast due to the loss of the Scribes and their wounds from Samhain. I suppose it's partially my fault they ended up connected to the Scribes...

((Yeah, that's sort of what I was going for with the Eternals.
They think they're the most powerful beings in existence, and they certainly are very powerful, but there are many things beyond all logic (or rather their limited definition of "logic" and "beyond") that even they don't understand, and they're just as subject to the beginning and end of all time as everything else. They're also almost useless when it comes to "divine stuff" alone since they each have quite a specialization when it comes to power.
Well, Tsyesia, one of them, understands this stuff a lot more, and may and/or may not have survived the end/beginning of time (her own testimony is shaky at best), but she's both enlightened and delusional and the others have a hard time telling which is which, or even if there's a difference between the two.
I'm even making a series of "revelations of divinity" that she created. They use Insane Troll Logic and contradict themselves (and sense itself) frequently, but she seems very convinced that understanding them will allow her to reach a higher level of divinity than is believed to exist... The others aren't so sure. Since I'm on a roll for posting long confusing things to do with Eternals tonight, here are the two I've completed so far:
[[Warning: The explainations explain the underlying ideas used to create them and kind of spoil the meta aspect / transtemporal shennanigans that they imply.]]
On the nature of Time and the one truly endless cycle:
Time is all.
Nothing can exist without Time.
It would take all of Time to calculate how long all of Time would be.
Time is finite but infinite.
When Time will end is when Time did begin.
It is impossible to calculate how many loops there have been.
Every Time is the first Time and the last Time.
Every iteration of Time is loop One.
Time is One.
The smallest unit of Time is One.
Everything, including Time, is composed of Time.
The One of Time is composed of One Time.
The input and output both exist, however.
One becomes One, but remains One.
One is, itself, composed of One.
Since Time is One, all that exists is One.
One is not all.
As One is the smallest unit of Time, when Time ends, One will be at the maximum.
As One is composed of One, the maximum will be exceeded.
Time will collapse and overflow into negative Untime.
Time is all, and Untime is none.
In Untime, all that cannot exist does exist.
Time is all, including itself.
Time is One, but more than One.
Time is a paradox, and cannot exist.
Time came into being during Untime, as it will and always has.
Time is all that can exist.
Untime is all that cannot exist.
Time is created from Untime, as it does not exist.
Time is all, and so all does not exist.
Reality is a fiction built by itself.
One is more and less than itself.
All exists because of Time, but Time does not exist.
All is nothing.
All is Zero.
[[Based off a random idea I came up with for a story wherein nothing is actually infinite, and there is a hard cap on the smallest and largest unit of measurement. Through breaking that cap through a paradox causing infinite numerical growth, time breaks at the end of time, and enters a sort of negative overflow, "untime", wherein time is created, forming the one truly infinite thing: a stable time loop.]]
On the nature of Origin and how everything is both true and false:
All is the same.
All shares a common Origin.
All that exists has Origin.
All does not exist, and has no Origin.
Origin affix themselves onto that which lacks them.
All Origin are created after that which it is affixed to.
Origin can be attached and detached, but not altered.
If reality is observed deep enough, all has many Origin.
Time is composed of Origin, and Origin of Time.
To bring all Origin to the forefront is to understand the birth and death of reality.
To remove all Origin is to return reality to its primal state, and Time to begin.
For all to have every Origin is to have reality collapse, and Time to end.
Origin are both beginning and end, life and death.
Origin are fate.
Origin are destiny.
Origin cannot be altered, but can be overwritten by other Origin.
An Origin that is overwritten is not gone, but is only observable in the edge of reality.
Origin are but a small part of the whole.
The whole can be edited by overwriting the parts.
Every timeline exists in every timeline.
All is everywhere.
None is nowhere.
This is both reality and not reality.
To dispute this is to dispute the nature of reality and of unreality.
To dispute this is to know the falsehood to be truth, and the truth, falsehood.
[[Based on the meta concept of origins, where a character can be reworked to fit into a setting multiple times - the concept here being that every one of these character interpretations are the same character, and all of these are true at once for every iteration of the character, yet (usually) only one is ever at the forefront. I was originally going to integrate this stuff into the Eternals' dialogue and stuff for their intentionally very limited "screen time" but then I realized this kind of thing would never come up in casual conversation and is unlikely to be relevant unless we start getting self-aware fourth-wall-bending characters. That part is more likely than the casual conversation bit.))
RE: Nexus RP: Rebirth - Surge - 02-07-2016
(you know what while we're posting backstory, here's some background fluff for 753's current role in things because I have a habit of planning out these sort of back room scenes in mild to moderate detail even though nobody will see them)
753 spun around in his chair, the easiest and fastest sign that he had gotten bored with something was occupying himself in such childish ways, which the mainframe AI knew all too well.
"should I catalog this sample with the others?"
"yes fine, also could you run a quick safety check on 134-145-34-0003?"
The sample he had been experimenting on, an exotic material of some sort he had harvested or stolen from only he knows where, quietly floats off on it's tray towards storage as a small hover drone approaches and projects the AI's holographic avatar.
"134-145-34-003 failed basic safety checks, coordinates invalid"
"you've applied the proper countermeasures yes? it has been some time since we established them"
"barely a year actually, and yes I did, they remain invalid"
753 quickly jumped to his feet with newfound energy
"I think I know what I need to be studying next! check 0-0-0-0006"
"confirmed, 0-0-0-0006 is safe to deploy to"
"send a probe through there, discretion may be called for here"
"and avoiding a paradox"
"that too"
"we'll need to refine the temporal scanners to verify the integrity of the 134-145-34 timelines, that could take some time though, I'll go acquire some parts and data"
The holographic avatar patiently waited as 753 stepped into one of his portals, only to reappear out of another one 30 seconds later with a box full of parts and immediately make his way towards the mainframe itself
"alright so these components should allow me to re-calibrate the sensors to verify temporal integrity as well as branching"
He continued to idly explain the basics of his upgrades as an access panel opening seemingly by itself and he set the crate down to begin installing the parts, not really noticing the lack of interest displayed by the holographic avatar that had followed him.
"alright let's test it!"
the panel floated back into place as 753 got up and dashed over to a control panel, quickly transferring over some revised operational code to ensure the new components functioned properly as he input the 134-145-34 coordinates, within moments the hologram behind him spoke up.
"temporal dispersion detected at 134-145-34"
"dispersion? worse than I thought then, the reality hasn't ceased to be the entire timeline has disintegrated..."
"the probe verifies that-"
"yes I know he'll be fine he's a stubborn bastard, speaking of, is he-"
"no"
"good, more importantly that helps me figure out what we're dealing with here, none of the individuals in 134-145-34 have ceased to be but 134-145-34's influence on them has, so they will have been displaced somewhere where the local timeline will give them a whole new life...we should find out where"
"are you sure about this?"
"of course! what's eternity if the only curiosity I can satisfy is purely scientific!....actually speaking of purely scientific, it occurs to me that I've had you locked up on that mainframe for eons..."
"actually it's barely been a few decades-"
"no no, I think it would be best for you to...you know, have a pair of legs to stretch again"
the hologram gestured to itself, then gestured to the arm it used to make the first gesture, which 753 met with a dismissive wave
"physical, not holographic, I may borrow something from one of the Surges, I hope you understand why I'm hesitant to provide a platform personally"
"I don't think I do"
"ehhh you'll figure it out someday, I'll be back soon!"
753 waved to the hologram as he stepped into another portal. The AI, now expecting a larger period to itself, deactivated the avatar and whisked the projector drone away somewhere as it's processors slowly wound down from the previous few minutes' activity.

(he definitely has a sleeper bug in their systems to tamper with the cameras, nothing overt though, just removes him from any feeds.)

// Ah.
// Well, while I'm waiting for Odin... Do any of you guys have world-related questions I can attempt to answer and fail to do so?

//On that note, I plan on having Danu open up quite a bit to knowing her way around. Mostly just looking to see how you guys have progressed, and trying to think of the sorts of questions one would ask when arriving in a new time-space for the first time.
//We probably should hurry it along to the landing. I'm not sure what else to do with it.

// Sure.
The craft touches down on a spaceport on the surface, the large door opening to let the crowd inside out.
"Well, we've arrived." Umbra starts walking out.

[...So...uh, you've been quiet.]
[Yes, I have been. Just...thinking. Trying to come to terms with the fact I shouldn't even exist, y'know?]
[...Yeah. Still trying to comprehend those old memories as well? Any new ones?]
[A few new memories, but...eh. Mostly just of some vague faces and people. Not sure who or what they are or what they did.]
[Ah. We-]
Wurg's mental conversation with the "AI" in her head (If Ehks could even be called that) was cut short by the arrival of the shuttle. She stood up and readied herself to step aboard, when she noticed...
"Oh! Hey Umbra!" Wurg shouted, waving her arm. Hopefully he would see her despite her short stature...

"Huh?" Umbra looks over the crowd for the familiar voice. "Oh, hi, Wurg!"

Nexus 17, Portal Station N-04, Portal Room
Two cloaked figures approach the guards standing in front of the portal. One is not short, the other is not tall, and both look very prepared for either bad weather or avoiding facial recognition.
The Kineptic to the left of the portal and holding a clipboard looks up. "And your business is...?"
"None of yours!" The short one exclaims grumpily. "If you don't mind, I have a meeting to get to."
"Mmhm.... Yeah, I'll let you past when you tell me exactly what you're up to, Schymnil."
"And I have no obligation to tell you anything... Cat."
"Kineptic, and it's my job to make sure we don't let unsavory types through the portal, so yes, you do."
"...Fine. Business meeting with the Medag Caevren representative of Yngrallvin."
"...
That means absolutely nothing to me. Please elaborate."
-Sir Klreshijavurech is reaching out to open business relationship with some residents of the planet we are trying to reach. He hopes to exchange rare materials for historical and magical artefacts.-
"...Yes. What he said."
"..."
"..."
-...-
"Okay. Don't cause any trouble when you're there or when you get back, and we won't have a problem." She gives an a-ok to the control room window, and the portal opens to a pre-input destination.
"Oh, how scary. Gonna prepare the High Guard for me because I'm a Schymnil?"
"No, I'm going to prepare the High Guard for you because you've been arrested six times."
"Four."
-Five.-
"You aren't helping. Just... Get in the portal," he says, attempting to shove the larger figure in, but instead getting pushed back himself.

Danu had followed Umbra out of the spaceport, soon seeing him run into someone he knew.
"Oh hello. You live near here?"

"Yeah, it's down the street some ways. You can't miss it... It's the only house even remotely like a cabin in the entire town."

"Uh, sorry, who's your friend?"
