//That's not how nuclear materials work, period. Firstoff, you need at minimum a baseball sized mass of highly concentrated nuclear material to make it work at all, and that's using Plutonium which is even more reactive than Uranium. To do it with Uranium you end up with over a ton of the stuff to even have a chance.

//Secondly, a critical mass can and will give off lethal amounts of radiation in the blink of an eye. Even a subcritical assembly can give off deadly doses with almost trivial provocations.

//30 feet is not nearly deep enough to shield a core. It would have to be buried more along the lines of 3000 feet deep in a concrete and lead lined vault that could tolerate every conceivable disaster scenario known to mankind to actually stay safe.

//We need to retcon this back to where the mecha was overheating but hadn't yet ejected its core. Otherwise Achroma Comito and I all face dead characters due to lethal radiation exposure, and the town would have to be evacuated due to contamination.
// that's current day tech.

// Just please stop trying to science this to death, whatever makes it work how it was described works. I'm sure in a world of ftl and magic someone would figure out micro fission reactors
Edit: this is a semi serious rp right? TREAT IT LIKE ONE! I'm out for now this is too frustrating to have to get hard science right in a setup that has freaking spell casting.

//Physics does not change no matter how much science you have. And even magic must still obey physics to some extent. I had planned on the fire department showing up to continue soaking it after Danu ran out of water, but with the core material exposed it is now a deadly situation that would be suicide for a firefighter to respond to.

//A scifi setting with technology as advanced as they have in this storyline would have almost certainly come up with a far safer means of portable power than any sort of nuclear fission technology. Why would anyone develop such a dangerous tech further when safer alternatives exist?

// I'll just point to the fact that the mech in question spoke with prerecorded words, had an actual console on its back, and worked as well as you'd expect ancient tech to

RE: Nexus RP: Rebirth - OdinYggd - 08-08-2016

//So the consensus from the chat thread is to retcon the detail of the nuclear core being ejected. It remains inside the body of the mech with at least some containment, even though a loss of coolant accident has taken place and the core has melted. Danu's efforts with cooling the mech off using water should be somewhat effective at maintaining at least some containment and cooling, preventing a nuclear disaster that would require the city to be evacuated.

//Carry on then. And I want all of you to report to the hospital once this is over for an in depth examination and documentation of symptoms. Because radiation sickness is not child's play.

RE: Nexus RP: Rebirth - Rahizel - 08-08-2016

*meanwhile, gregor could find himself back where he was when the whole thing started, oddly free of damage and radiation, like it was all just a bad dream. Seems odd that a killing machine possesing no concept of the value of sentient life actually helped them*

*the raptor heads into the hospital, with a expression of terror*
"Where can I find a doctor, and someone call the Guards."
*the room begins to fill with the smell of cleaning supplies*

RE: Nexus RP: Rebirth - OdinYggd - 08-09-2016

\\Rahizel you need to rewrite your reply to this so that the core of the mech stays contained inside it, even though the reactor has already destroyed itself and the unit should be losing power.

achroma Wrote:

Gregor can see a faint white glowing on the edge of the forest, someone else had come to help clean up the mess!

With cold water like that the mech would stop overheating, although it was too late to save the core it would at least remain inside the body of the unit well enough for the remains to be cut up and taken to proper disposal.

Whoever this was that had come to help, they were risking their life. The core had almost certainly breached containment and was giving off potentially lethal amounts of radiation.
*the avali begins to walk quicker, seeing the faint glow.*
"Yeah, this can't be good. And why is there so suddenly so much water."

//We still need to resolve this situation before people report to the hospital. Lets try this one more time.

Reactor critical, engaging protocol: oscar mike echo golf alpha

*the mech leans forwards as a small launch rail slides sideways out the back and fires a toaster sized object off with a rocket, which can be seen parachuting down somewhere. The truly ancient mech is nearly split in half and has been completely destroyed on the inside, almost split completely in half as well. RE: Nexus RP: Rebirth - Comito - 08-10-2016

Gregor awakens on the edge of the clearing and rapidly gets to his feet, looking around and inspecting the mech's wreck from afar.

RE: Nexus RP: Rebirth - OdinYggd - 08-11-2016

Danu continues soaking the wreck as best she can, keeping herself concealed in the steam as much as possible.

Pretty soon though fire trucks arrive and secure the scene.

Once they do, Danu allows herself to be brought by the medics over to where everyone else near the mech was to be decontaminated as necessary. Fortunately the radioactive materials stayed inside it for the most part, so the only danger was the effects of immeadiate exposure.

A medic in a hazmat suit approaches Gregor with a scanner, checking for any contamination. "This area is being cordoned off for hazmat cleanup. Since you were exposed, we need to take you for decontamination and medical attention."

Similar happens to achroma, two people in hazmat suits approach- one marked as a policeman, the other as a medic. They start to scan him, and inform him that he needs to accompany them to decontamination.

RE: Nexus RP: Rebirth - achroma - 08-13-2016

"A small mining town in the frontier of nexus 17 grows larger as a "gold" rush begins for a rare mineral called atium. The town of Goldfield is nestled behind the mountains in a dry plain, due east of Woodstock.
Beings of all races rush to the site to make a profit by any means necessary, and when the sun sets, crime the crime begins. Turf wars, land disputes and murders, are kept to a minimum by the local law enforcement. The current way of getting to the town of goldfield is by train, stretching through the woods and over mountains. Legend has it that some of the occupants draw power from consuming metals, also known as mistings. More on mistingsThe town is Mainy lead by ten houses. Each responsible for different aspects of Goldfeild. More on the houses //now the real question, will this idea be cannon?
