I talk to him from time to time, it was a long time coming. Pretty much one of the only reasons he stuck around was moderating and more out of a sense of obligation than anything. He only did it once or twice a week for the last few months anyways.

So it turns out that my phone was completely off the update schedule from it's manufacture, and had been for months, which explained why I didn't even get security updates.
12 hours later, one unlocked bootloader, one custom ROM.
