Or double-cart someone. Which is hard but hilarious to do. But I digress. Yes, it looks hilarious and fun to do it in tanks. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-20-2016 I still cannot get over how sad and pathetic this thing looks. It's a 75 ton death machine that just looks like a kicked puppy. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Lost Rinoah - 06-20-2016 Why... Why would you put a cat pattern on a timber wolf..? I still don't like the freaking enormous rocket pods, I like the idea of revolving autoloading tubes, like in earth 2150. Mind you the exact appearance will usually vary wildly because across 2,000 some systems and 5 different interstellar nations there are no real standards that weapons are built to, but as a general rule of thumb rocket pods will be smaller than missile pods. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Lost Rinoah - 06-20-2016 (06-20-2016, 03:11 AM)Rahizel Wrote: Yeah that's sad looking. Would only work with streaks or dumbfire, as the homing capability would need to be completely in the projectile rather than the vehicle, reducing overall damage capability and increasing ammo cost excessively. Rocket pods are cheaper and more practical in the long run as auto loaders are cheaper than using more rounds. The UCS rocket launchers are extremely innefficient compared to the other teams despite doing slightly more damage, with LC starting with them and having longer range, and the ED being able to carry more ammo and field more units equipped with them. Don't waste your time researching rockets on UCS when you can research cannons and plasma. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-20-2016 Rocket launchers aren't even good in Battletech, they lack guidance like SRMs but are distinct in that they also lack an autoloader. They do less damage per missile, and generate more heat, but the "payoff" is that an RCL20 costs half as much as an SRM6 before ammo costs for the SRM, weighs half as much with ammo as an unloaded SRM6, and has more ammo in its 1.5 tons than a full ton of SRMs. I mean it sounds like a reasonable tradeoff, but the lack of a loader really slays these things, they're weapons of desperate reserve, often hip or thigh mounted and you simply let them fly as a last ditch effort when everything else has run dry, they're too hot for anything other than shots of opportunity, you only get one shot anyways, and they don't do enough damage per missile to justify any use beyond crit-seeking a stripped target. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Umbra - 06-20-2016 You people are sitting around talking about mechs when all I want is a decent suit of stealth-oriented power armor. Blowing shit up in 70-something+ ton mechs is fun and all, but I like my stealth, dammit! RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-20-2016 (06-20-2016, 04:06 AM)Umbra Wrote: You people are sitting around talking about mechs when all I want is a decent suit of stealth-oriented power armor. Battletech has you covered. This is the Nighthawk, a light suit of power armor, it's only real features are an ECM suite and 120kg of stealth armor plating, jump jets allowing for hops of up to 90 meters at a time, and a full life support system. If the Nighthawk is a bit TOO barebones there are other options as well. This is a Purifier, what it lacks in an ECM suite it makes up for in mimetic armor plating that dynamically shifts to blend with the Purifier's surroundings, it also has an integral weapon mount capable of supporting a number of relatively heavy infantry weapons and it retains the jump jets with roughly the same range. This is a Grey Death Infiltrator, it lacks mimetic armor or an ECM suite but does boast stealth armor plating and has a modular weapon mount on one arm, a light railgun with 15 shots on the other, and those same jump jets all the previous suits have had. There are even more options, including the GDI's mil-spec counterpart the Infiltrator MkII, but frankly I think I've gone on long enough. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Lost Rinoah - 06-20-2016 Pretty little things to me. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-20-2016 I honestly wish the battle armor suits could get some spotlight in Battletech. A shooter of some sorts where mechs are rare harbingers of death on a battlefield dominated by infantry, battle armor, and basic vehicles. Of course a game like that would be kind of underselling the entire point of the franchise, which is the Battlemechs. Of course a game like that would be kind of underselling the entire point of the franchise, which is the Battlemechs. Actually, no it wouldn't. Why? Because you play as or control squads of powered armor under a militia force. You can't afford battlemechs, what, you think random civvies are made of money? But guess what you're fightin? Mechs. "Well then how do you take down assault mechs?" By putting satchels or other shaped charges on their leg as they pass and blowing it out from beneath em, like completely, not just crippling it. Then blow the cockpit. Or dump a building on it. Guess what the game is glorifying? And that's why it would work. May as well slap the "horror" genre on it. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-20-2016 The problem with this idea is that I just really want to strap one of these on and go wade into an enemy infantry squad, maybe rip open a tank or something. Fun fact, this armor has an "interdictor" variant with mimetic armor and an ECM suite. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Lost Rinoah - 06-20-2016 (06-20-2016, 05:00 AM)Surge Wrote: The problem with this idea is that I just really want to strap one of these on and go wade into an enemy infantry squad, maybe rip open a tank or something. Don't forget about the "can-opener" problem. When your tool is too small for the job you want to use it for. Specifically this one is for opening metal things obviously. You could bite into the metal, but, not really anything else. It's easy to make the little fingers have a high crush strength. But trying to use the arms for things like that, and you just get severe structural issues. Like the arm breaking off at the lever force's main stress point or completely popping the torso open due to material weaknesses. Because they're reinforced against things on the outside getting in. Not from internal force pushing out. Construction equipment is built in reverse of military. Edit: Shiit, took you too literally there for a moment again. Sounds like fun. I am literally autistic. |
