RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Lost Rinoah - 06-23-2016 I've heard it's a repetetive RNG only game. Everything I've heard that's been positive has been qualmed by statements of the complete opposite. Saw it was interested, checked reviews. Bleck. But that's just me. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-23-2016 Darkest Dungeon is indeed a bit repetitive. Usually in the same way XCOM is, where it becomes an exercise in repeatedly applying the same MoE to different groups of similar enemies, but DD sinks into the murk of redundancy far faster. However at a heavy discount like it is I don't mind this. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Comito - 06-23-2016 You know it to be true. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-23-2016 Honestly I'm trying to think of any singular game that still does that. A lot of DLC has been centered on the recent shift towards multiplayer games with a story tacked on, where the DLC adds little in the way of actual "meat" to the game, just multiplayer maps and a gun or two, whereas single player games that are heavy on DLC tend to be praised for the depth of their DLC. I guess Fallout might fall into your example since it is pretty lacking without the DLC. I can use it as a debit card at a cash register, as an ATM card to get cash for small transactions or little shops that don't take cards, and as a credit card that I can use for online purchases or to buy something big- as long as the account has enough funds to pay for it. So that seems odd to me that they gave you a debit card that is unable to function in the other 2 modes. Because if it is backed by VISA or Mastercard, which a lot of cards would be given that they are global providers, I would expect it to support all three operating modes. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Shaadaris - 06-24-2016 Welp, the UK is leaving the EU... But Scotland and Ireland both had majority votes to stay in... Something tells me the UK won't be U for much longer. Britain, Scotland, Ireland (the part in the UK anyway) and maybe Wales might end up seperate or something if enough people get pissed off about this. ...And this would matter little to me if it wasn't for the fact that the UK's decision is already impacting Canada's economy by right of association or something. Bleehhh. The UK isn't in the EU anymore, making most of the non-England UK angry, Trump might be the US president, the Canadian PM had a big sh*tstorm explode around him because he accidentally elbowed someone... What is the politics even. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-24-2016 Heroes & Generals hurts my soul. The game just seems aggressively against all of the key features that make most FPS formulas work, opting for very arcadey gun handling and HUD, but also enforcing punishing respawn times and points, as well as unforgiving damage models. It's pretty common in arcadey shooters to die in moments once the shooting starts, but Heroes & Generals is a game where even a single body shot from a simple rifle can put you in the dirt, and then you'll likely be out of action for the next 30 some seconds staring a respawn screen, after which you will be deposited so far back that spawning in a whole jeep just to drive to the front and then abandoning it forever is considered preferable to walking and even necessary in some cases. As a F2P game H&G also has a monetization model, which is "you can buy anything you want with a small investment of either cash, or an unreasonable amount of your free time" and yes anything you want includes actual progression, if you are willing to drop the dosh then even XP locked equipment is but a few transactions away, you can theoretically purchase a max level character, all of the medals the game has for you to earn and unlock things through, and then all the gear you could ever want tweaked to sweet perfection if you are willing to shit away enough money. On the other hand I, as a lowly peasant, spent 3-4 matches worth of hard work on some slightly tweaked gun sights for a marginal improvement in my accuracy. The game modes are straight forward, attack and defend where one team has to hold onto to so many points for so long and the other has to take all of them, skirmish where 2 teams fight to control several neutral points, and honestly I think that might actually be it. There are 3 factions, with actually minimal overlap, and within each faction you can progress to play as an infantryman, a tank crewman, a pilot, a paratrooper, a sniper/scout, or you can be a general and go play on the overmap instead of the battlefield, all of these classes have unique playstyles and options associated with them, and all will cost an inappropriate amount of your life. I just...it's so soulless it makes ME feel empty and dead inside. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-24-2016 I'll be honest, when I saw Battlezone 98 Redux I expected an "HD" retexture of the same old low poly blobs I flew around the solar system when I was younger, but these are actually totally new models for all the units in a new engine(with all the limiting quirks of the old one recreated). Now if only they could redesign the menus and SFX too. Also yes the draw distance is really this bad. RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - SCN-3_NULL - 06-24-2016 http://playstarbound.com/23rd-june-fenerox/ potential new race? RE: Avali Nexus Forum Thread: 4 Score and Several Threads Ago... - Surge - 06-24-2016 So with that said I guess let's talk Battlezone. Battlezone is a Cold War sci-fi game that is as much a product of the Cold War as it is about the Cold War. In Battlezone the US and USSR aren't duking it out with nukes on earth because they have secret hyper advanced armies duking it out across the solar system...somehow. Anyways you pick your side, strap into your hover tank, and embark on a bizarrely engaging FPS/RTS hybrid adventure, setting up bases at predetermined viable points using mobile structures, harvesting scrap metal from destroyed enemies to bolster your ranks, and occasionally catapulting much needed supplies to wherever you need them. Flying a hovertank is actually every bit as complicated as you might expect, though you lack much in the way of vertical agility, however if you're bad and get blown up, you can rest easy knowing that all modern hovercraft are equipped with a handy ejection system and a lightly armored cockpit, and that all pilots are issued a sniper rifle, so once you land again, you can punch right through the cockpit of somebody else and steal their craft. On the RTS side of things you have a recycler that is your resource dropoff point, constructs most basic units, and is generally the heart of your operation, a factory that builds advanced vehicles, an armory that builds weapons and catapults them at you, and a constructor that sets up more permanent structures. Commands are issued via a numpad menu, and are about as unwieldy as any FPS/RTS will inevitably be. The game has an actually robust list of vehicles, missile tanks, battle tanks, light tanks, bombers, fighters, APCs, artillery pieces, turrets, walkers, and a modest list of weapons for them all to use, of course the downside to that being that you can equip your missile tank with an AT gun, chaingun, and earthquake gun (yes that is a thing in battlezone) and then no missiles, but oh well. Each vehicle has unique dimensions, a custom cockpit, all are pilotable, and most have different capabilities. My only complaint right now is that my initial tenure with Battlezone was in an N64 port...with the infamous N64 controller, so not only is adjusting to the mouse and keyboard new, the PC version also appears substantially more difficult, or maybe it's just because I haven't gotten back into the habit of strafing yet. Battlezone 98 Redux is thus a very compelling revisit for fans, and in my opinion the game itself is mechanically compelling enough that it's worth a look even for new users. Basically the UK right now. Jesus 2016 has been a mess.
