Life insurance money is weird.
Having all that money at once means I can finally fix all these things that I've had to just put up with for ages because I can't afford a fix, like my car, my GPU, etc etc. But I'm getting all that money because I lost a loved one, so I feel like actually spending it would be almost disrespectful.

You guys pretty much ignored me when I said my dad was dying until I had to say to myself "well if there's ever a time to allow yourself to be emotional this clearly isn't it because nobody gives a flying fuck about your loss" and now that he's dead and I'm staring down the paperwork associated with his life insurance I get "wait somebody died?" and "you get some of my condolences." fuckin thanks but no thanks, I'm well past the part where any emotional support would even be meaningful to me, nevermind the part where I might need some. sorry needed to get that out of my system.

It is very much far too late. Plus, liver replacement isn't...really...easy. Nor cheap. Surge, I'm sorry that I didn't give you some sort of consolation during the time. I know what it's like to lose a loved one, but...I don't know how to comfort others in the same situation. I didn't want to make things worse. Listen I want my dad alive as much as anyone else in my family but the man was an alcoholic, he allowed it to consume him and it destroyed his body, I absolutely agree with the hospital that you cannot give somebody like that a second chance at life because it is just too likely that they will waste it, and there sure as hell aren't a lot of spare livers to go around. More importantly this all assumes that there was any real chance of him recovering in the first place, he had several bacterial infections on top of the organ failure, the buildup had gone on for months untreated (because he was a stubborn bastard who hated being confined to a hospital bed), and at some point in that mess his kidneys failed too, there is no guarantee he would have lived through all of this while sitting on an organ transplant wait list, nevermind that our family would be able to afford the expenses this would incur.
