From what I gather it reads more like an arcade game, with respawns and death tokens, but then people are getting upset about a lack of accountability? It's all very weird to me xD - Seems like whoever is the GM of sorts (Odin?) needs to more firmly establish the setting and ground rules; whether the RP is sort've arcadey and light hearted or more serious and realistic. It's doubly ironic to me as an outsider looking in and the fact the RP thread exists on the Avali forum, that death is a serious point of concern, because in the core Avali setting, it takes a lot of effort to actually kill an Avali character. Their medical tech is sufficient that they can stabilise and treat pretty much everything up to laz-3 on schlock's index of dead provided they are properly stabilised immediately (and the kit to do that is pretty portable and lightweight) The addition of space magic and moving away from the core setting's actually introduced more vulnerability than it fixed, ironically.

Not really the GM, more of a trying to make sense of the madness and in the process ending up trying to stabilize things some.
Shaadaris seems to want to give it actual plot and story, but first we need to get the people involved into a situation where they can interact in satisfying ways without blowing up the world or altering timelines every 2 seconds. Ehksidian seems to be the default in charge of the place as well, probably do in no small part to his admin status. So pretty much I just want to have fun with it, and for that to happen while it will stay casual it at least needs some measure of sanity-preserving guidelines to follow for anything in it to ever make sense. The current solution is similar to having to do corpse runs in Vanilla World of Warcraft. On death you drop a crystal that can be recovered by your allies, and brought to a device that Danu and Wurg are constructing in Wurg's lab. With enough support from your allies, the crystal will gradually glow until it shines brightly at which time it can be placed in the socket and a clone tube used to regenerate the dead character. On the other hand an unpopular character or one written with intention to be killed off, the crystal will gradually darken and shatter- from which revival is no longer possible. With death clearly defined, we now have a situation where people would be a little more hesitant to throw nuclear weaponry and the like at each other because if you die there is a very real chance you might not come back- and at minimum it will be a couple of days before you do. From that known constant we should be able to fit other pieces into place to allow silly casual RP to take place within a robust framework that will permit a very real story to unfold.

Yeah, basically the silly, nonserious RP got...well, people got sick of the completely silly, nonserious dumb stuff that always happened, so it's a tad more serious
death has consequence and stuff. it's still mostly not supremely serious, but yeah hopefulyl no one will go "HURR OKAY NUKE EVERYTHING YAY THIS IS TOTALLY NOT ANNOYING!" or something to that effect. i just realized drama happened and it finished swiftly and with a solution that left most people happy. wow. #FREEDOMFROMPANTS Heir of Mind

The power of a veteran support character and hostage negotiator. Isn't it great what can happen when people talk things over and put together some new ideas?

So in Starsector I lost my entire fleet, then I remembered, wait a tick, what about that battleship I hid in a drydock at that abandoned station? Sure enough, there it is, all systems nominal, all guns loaded, all it was missing was a crew and some cleaning. So one trip to the nearest recruiting station later I'm shitting fury on the local pirate bases with the might of a thousand railguns.

So apparently I introduce a conspiracy deep inside the Orion Alliance to the srsRP and no-one gives a single shit, even in the OOC thread.

So entire factions are hiding the truth because even the idea that souls exist would cause chaos, Galaxion's AI did some awesome shit in the face of the Alliance's human president (each (major) race within the Alliance has it's own president, who all work together) and the conspiracy itself, and Galaxion is a sleeper agent for the Precursors thanks to the GUARDIAN DNA. And not even a single acknowledgement. Fucking hell. EDIT: Thank you Umbra. That's very kind of you. Linux Crime Squad

Well Smallpaw is already/was a Precursor, so there's no need, right? Well, as long as he keeps his alliances to that of the Precursors, but with the GUARDIAN, it's not like he has a choice anways. :P Linux Crime Squad

As a bit of a note, if the Precursors invade (okay, in the context of the universe they most likely will) he might choose to fight for his new friends, which the GUARDIAN would override. This means he would get to watch his own body betray him. Welcome the Nexus RP, please leave all silliness at the door. Linux Crime Squad

MY HOPE FOR THE HUMA...VALI...THING... RACE IS RESTOR...umm... SLIGHTLY INCREASED!
Interesting going-ons in Serious RP, finally some rules for Nonserious RP (which on a side note really needs a better name. I have a feeling the title being "nonserious" hasn't helped the air of ridiculousness at all) |
