I can really understand if you see flaws in the lore and would like to see them fixed?...

Avali wont be hard sci-fi lore with fleshier story than a ham sandwich. Its just a fun little race for starbound that caught on, thats it.
Just to elaborate from what I know...
They started off in 2008 or so (maybe earlier) on Spore as a thought experiment of how a society like this would work.
Either way, I too think you're looking too deeply into it when people really didn't care... I don't think Ryuujin is trying to compile a narrative, which would rule out the elements of trying to tell one here.
I also wanted to say something about this...

I am pretty sure that it's not, really just world-building from what I know.
