Silly? Of course not, the belief was reached easily using only the knowledge that medical maggots are a thing. To infer that any sort of fly breeding program is used with only that knowledge is the silly part.

Even attempting to perform a simple thought process regarding using wild larva in open fleshwounds will imply that they might carry diseases or cause infections of some kind - and since you asked for it - if one think that it wouldn't, they'd quite frankly be strawberried, hun.
