Okay, thoughts down on paper. Now who wants to see Ippy being a derpy fuckwit with terrible ideas?
This has all been in my brain since Silver said he wanted to make the Republic "more grey". Well, with me studying Faction Design and Tabletop Games and with a copy of Little Wars in hand, I crossed my fingers and derped hard.
I looked back at the Nexus 101 Document, and found it to only be a paragraph or two of text - and a lot of it, from the bombings of peace talks to Soviet Russia-esque tactics looked like stuff people wanted rid off, so I took a look, saw what it looked like I could keep and basically threw the rest out the airlock. All while derping hard of course.
The big thing was I tried to take their evilness in a more grey direction. With an organisation like the Republic and in a hostile universe, the aims and ideals shifting from "Saturday Morning Cartoon villain" to "Paranoid" seemed like a logical place to go. Furthermore although I touched on it, the tighter control of people's freedoms is a bit similar to what goes on here in England. Yes, even the Xenophobia is a British thing.
Military wise (and being honest, THIS was my real area of expertise), Silver no longer wanted them to depend on Human Wave Tactics. Fine. So what if we made them the Balanced instead of the Horde faction instead? For those who consider that statement gibberish, the Balanced faction are the guys who can do everything and adapt to any situation, but lose out to more specialised units everyone else can bring to the dance floor. Also because I know you're thinking it, if the MBT with a Machine Gun and AA System looks insanely OP, the Terminator says hi (yes this thing is based on something IRL too, and I'd argue this thing is crazier).
As for the War Mechs (because we don't seem to have a more unique name for them yet), well I kinda did a derp thing and used this monstrosity as inspiration while listening to the Menu theme for Metal Fatigue. I wasn't too sure about having these, however a post from Surge implied they seemed to exist in some form or another last time around, so I kept them on (or reintroduced them, I'm not sure which). Also, GIANT ROBOTS ARE TOTALLY IPPY'S THING AND I'LL NOT HEAR A THING AGAINST THEM.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go take a wash. Then I'mma gonna go derp while you guys castrate me for coming up with such terrible thoughts and trampling all over someone else's ideas without doing any research.
