The entire purpose of a joke is to make you laugh, to give you a moment's release from a harsh reality with something stupid or silly, and if you won't let yourself laugh at jokes about a certain subject it's not because the jokes are bad, though they may very well be awful, it's because you're too attached to those various negative emotions associated with the subject to enjoy anything involving it. What kind of a world are we trying to build when we tell other people that they also need to latch onto those negatives and not appreciate somebody adding light to a very dark part of our world?
sometimes it can't be seen as a joke, and sometimes it's just not good to do
i wouldn't make a 9/11 joke around someone who lost family due to the attack, just like how i wouldn't make suicide jokes around someone who is suicidal. if it was just "no don't do that" and it was obviously a joke, and not directed at someone who has a history of suicidal tendencies...that's silly. but if it could actually be seen as serious, or done to someone who had said tendencies? yeah saying stop makes sense.
