When something intensely negative comes to light you're saying that nobody is allowed to feel anything but negative emotions about this topic, no matter where it goes, not only that you're saying such feelings aren't possible, which is what I disagree with. If I make a joke about a shitty topic and you're more concerned about the subject matter than the quality of the joke then you are allowing tragedy to rule your emotions, and trying to make it rule the emotions of those around you too.
Because people are totally in control of their emotions at all times, especially in the face of such breaking events
It's remarkably naive to think you can joke and everyone will like it.
The subject matter of a joke is still the most important part of it, no matter of it's quality.
And it sounds like you're blaming the victims of negativity that you can't joke about things like that. Even if you weren't, it's still selfish to whine about why you can't than just trying to keep things considerate for everyone.
You can't always know, of course. But it's pretty safe to say that the touchier topics, like suicide, 9/11, ect
Are generally off limits for jokes.
If you absolutely want to bring light to people's days, be considerate and don't poison your good intentions with a bad topic.
