It may be a bit over the top but there is definitely some truth behind it.
You can rarely get into PC gaming without some degree of know-how. You have to be able to keep both your software and hardware intact, troubleshoot issues when (not if) they come up, you have the obscene expense of most hardware and peripherals. Sure you can get in relatively cheap if you can follow instructions and turn a screwdriver, but you'll be paying dues in upkeep before long even without trying to upgrade, parts will go bad, software will get corrupted, all kinds of things can and will go wrong.
Meanwhile consoles are refreshingly constant and hassle free, my PC shows it's age with constant lag and software crashes, my Xbox shows it's age by being a bit slower than it used to be.
