Heck, maybe a proper war between the two, with both invading eachother. (I've always wanted to see Akavir itself in a game)Actually oblivion directly references that the next step in the prophecy is the arrival of the dragonborn, and that the blades will bide their time until then.
Two of those three events happened between the time of Oblivion and Skyrim, and the other was during Oblivion. Only in Skyrim were these events connected in any way with the Alduin's Wall prophecy, retroactively. So basically, they were making it up as they went along and will probably continue to do so. Skyrim was a nice end to the prophecy introduced in Skyrim.
"With no Emperor to serve, the Blades now return to our ancient role. We will bide our time until the next Dragonborn arises." According to random internet person. Not a prophecy so much as foreshadowing for the next game, which they were probably already planning. Heck, there are probably hints towards the next game somewhere in Skyrim, probably just well hidden without context to look for.
