What? Listen I want my dad alive as much as anyone else in my family but the man was an alcoholic, he allowed it to consume him and it destroyed his body, I absolutely agree with the hospital that you cannot give somebody like that a second chance at life because it is just too likely that they will waste it, and there sure as hell aren't a lot of spare livers to go around.
More importantly this all assumes that there was any real chance of him recovering in the first place, he had several bacterial infections on top of the organ failure, the buildup had gone on for months untreated (because he was a stubborn bastard who hated being confined to a hospital bed), and at some point in that mess his kidneys failed too, there is no guarantee he would have lived through all of this while sitting on an organ transplant wait list, nevermind that our family would be able to afford the expenses this would incur.
