-more simpler in artwork (no shading, or color, or more "simple" designs and stuff)
-the actual full time job of the author, not just something they do as a side gig like most do.
comics don't just pop out of the ether, people have to devote a considerable amount of time to drawing them, planning them, writing them, and all of that. once a week is average and good.
be glad you don't have to wait a year for a batch of updates like i do with homestuck, or wait months for one update with ava's demon, or how some people wait with lackadaisy cats e_e
so DMFA meets none of those criteria as it has an in-depth universe and constantly unfolding story, very high quality art, and the author still does other things.
hooray for exceptions to the rule.
another webcomic i follow, sanity circus, updates three times a week and also is good writing and art.
