I am engineer not some capitalist cooperate!
Consider it a test of character then, if you would do something that you know annoys people just because you were told to.
But engineers and salesmen often don't get along anyway, because the salesman promises that the product will not only do what it is being bought for, but it also cures cancer and is a perpetual motion based infinite power source. And then the engineer is expected to deliver that miracle in 3 days for 1/2 the original budget.
Now I never finished my engineering degree because I was struggling with some of the business ethics they were teaching and what they were saying was industry standard practice seemed highly immoral to me. But I ended up getting a job that does a lot of engineering level work anyway, mostly in industrial automation and HVAC applications. And I can tell you that it is all the same, your boss and the customer want you to design the full-scale NCC-1701 Enterprise functional and flyable for less than $10,000 projected build cost.
