That guy in a corner with an SMG won't be there long because even if you die there are 3 dudes behind you with grenades, and you'll respawn in 20 seconds to go at it again. Literally everything is made so much faster paced by the simple notion that you're allowed to fuck up, the game is going to punish you for it but the next team respawn will just put you right back out there. It's not a "game" of waiting for somebody to lose their nerve and try to move so you can shoot them dead it's a constant orgy of mass violence along a huge battlefield where nobody is even willing to sit still for more than a minute in most cases, never mind camp. THAT is a realistic shooter done right, it uses the realism to add features that either work in the player's favor or enhance his experience, not just make it as stressful as possible.(03-14-2016, 01:28 PM)Surge Wrote:
- Claustrophobic maps encourage corner camping
- Extreme lethality discourages movement
- Generally difficult to manage weapons
- Snipers usually only useful for killing other snipers
- Sniper duels come down to pixel hunting
- Respawn system (or lack thereof) punishes mistakes harshly
- Matches are long and drawn out with more stressful idling than actual gameplay
Mmmm, I do love lists.
1. Yes, corner camping is a thing, get over it. Flashbangs and teamwork counter this. Okay, so people in this game will try to COD it, but a lot of my experiences are genuinely positive on the coordination and cooperation side of things.
2. Um, yeah. Welcome to "realism". You wont be running around if you have a bullet in your head. Sure, kevlar should stop more bullets, but it doesn't need to. While mostly a game balance thing, you shouldn't be tanking hits anyway.
3. Clarification please, I genuinely don't know what you mean.
4. What snipers are you using? Get an SKS or EBR and you can mow down people with ease. I clutched a 1v7 because most of them rushed me, expecting an easy kill, only to take a bullet to the face.
5. Agreed, but why are you dueling snipers? Sniper is like it would be in real life, you're supposed to find a nice spot and pick off threats while your teammates push and secure points. If there's an enemy sniper, that you can't confidently kill, fall back and find a new spot.
6. This one is more personal preference, but I'm inclined to agree. Although, if you play patiently, and learn the flow of the maps, you're going to survive a lot longer.
7. Again, personal preference. Depends how you play, what gun and loadout you use, what role you play, etc.

BTW, for the original post this sprouted off, RWR is a great game, really captures the feeling of actually being but a cog in a larger machine, just another expendable soldier rather than an asskicking super marine.

Confirmed. No idea how it'll work, but god am I hyped.
damn it null I was about to make a post about that.
Speaking of which, would anyone happen to have a spare copy of it? I'm $6 short in my steam wallet and PayPal is malfunctioning. *makes cow eyes*
