So I finally got a good start for Dwarf Fortress Adventure mode. After my last try on that world ended in a weird death (apparently human guards really don't like it when you comment about the weather to traveling goblins), I started as a dwarf, in a camp, as a soldier, surrounded by other dwarven soldiers with a item pile nearby, in the middle of nowhere, while snow falls in the middle of spring.
But considering the only other choice was in a human town at the arse of the world, I went with it. I talk to a local, and the first words out of the adventurer's mouth is "Hello [name I can't be arsed to remember]. Long live the cause!"
As it turns out (thanks to savefile cloning and legends mode), the goblins defeated the Dwarven civilization years ago, but instead of destroying everything they just put puppet barons everywhere and took control. The camp I'm in is a bandit camp east of the mountains, established some time after the fall, whose leader is currently out on a patrol in the frigid forest.
Sometimes the procedural generation goes just right, eh?
