A good number of the US Navy battlecruisers already get propelled sideways by firing the main guns off the port or starboard.
I was just going to say, real world battleships are often displaced visibly when firing more than one gun at a time. There's pictures of this about.
Naval ships usually mount triple guns for complexity and firing rate reasons, since the turret mechanism to rotate the gun for aiming is complex and heavy.
Turbolasers on the other hand would be a lot more energy intensive when firing, and fire at a much higher rate than projectile weapons do. Much of the advantage of a triple gun is lost, so the mechanism becomes smaller and lighter mounting a single turbolaser instead of a triple.
And now that I think about it, that's a glaring issue in Pirates of the Caribbean. When those ships fired a full broadside, there should have been visible displacement in the water beneath from the entire ship being shoved back by the blast.
