Anyways I'm bored so time to act on that plan to reinvent Surge and crew and stretch the old writing muscles.
My awful writing aside here is a fan-made 3D model of a mech for MWO. I present, the Hatamoto-Chi.

There's a certain humor in the poor referee trying to keep Leo's trademark brutality in check through these spars, but I can't help but sympathize a bit with the lieutenant's frustration as the Jaeran no longer even pretends to listen to the scolding he is receiving. It's not like Leo to spar like this in the first place, he's always been vocal about his hatred of these kind of bloodless fights but when he asked for a sparring partner Unit 130 accommodated him with a trooper to fight and a referee, then Leo put on his power armor, handed the soldier one of his swords, and after a brief duel crushed the poor sod's chest plate with a hard blow from his free hand. That cycle had repeated itself 3 times now and the referee was almost more frustrated than embarrassed.
Everyone was used to Leo's lack of restraint and tendency to violence, his body was a finely tuned killing machine and his mind a pureed mess usually kept under a thick haze of alcohol, which is why sparring at all is so uncharacteristic of him, there is a method to this madness, I'm sure of it. It honestly scares me a bit to think that Leo has made some life changing decision on his own time to set off this sudden shift, for a time now I've depended on his predictable behavior and habits to keep him in check but he is and always has been a very dangerous person, my reputation comes from my resources, among them Leo, but Leo would be threatening with nothing more than his bare hands.
The lieutenant finally tires of scolding the inattentive mercenary and steps off, another soldier stepping forward, word having gotten out fast and all the Tecarians having taken a morbid interest in what has been quickly becoming a minor bloodsport, I suppose this is what happens when bodily harm is little more than an inconvencience. The soldier picks up the sparring sword, none of them were explicitly trained for sword fighting but the AIs had no doubt been studying anything they could find as they waited for their turn, and this one felt he was ready, he spun his sword around in his hand as a show of his newfound skill and I caught a few of his comrades trying not to laugh as Leo came at him.
There was no elegance or patience to his attacks, just a lot of brute force, he struck wide and hard first pulling his opponent's blade out to catch the attack as he ran forward before barreling into him with all of his momentum, the opponent narrowly managing to avoid being steamrolled as Leo stopped himself by swinging around with his armor's other blade and again just narrowly missing the soldier. After missing twice he did something really surprising and stopped dead, waiting for his opponent's next move. His partner stood there bewildered, he had been watching how Leo fought to prepare for this but this was not how Leo fought, but the armored Jaeran simply stared at him passively for several seconds before the soldier hesitantly moved forward to go on the offensive, Leo took the lapse in his guard to catch his blade with one of his own and then grab the arm holding it with his other hand, then raising a leg and kicking the soldier away from him, another sickening sound of twisting metal and the droid was flung away from his opponent sans an arm. The crowd of bystanders couldn't decide if this was exciting or troubling, as it was technically what they were here to see, but before the Lieutenant could shout at Leo any further he threw the arm aside and walked off, he said nothing as he passed me and with his helmet shut tight I can only guess as to the look on his face.
There is more to him than I have given him credit for, I made a mental note to keep a close eye on his behavior in the coming weeks as I turned away from the wounded droid and walked back to my workshop, the past month had been full of enough changes without Leo deciding to finally be his own man, but there was little I could do but keep an eye on him and hope he stays on my side.
