Rocket launchers aren't even good in Battletech, they lack guidance like SRMs but are distinct in that they also lack an autoloader. They do less damage per missile, and generate more heat, but the "payoff" is that an RCL20 costs half as much as an SRM6 before ammo costs for the SRM, weighs half as much with ammo as an unloaded SRM6, and has more ammo in its 1.5 tons than a full ton of SRMs. I mean it sounds like a reasonable tradeoff, but the lack of a loader really slays these things, they're weapons of desperate reserve, often hip or thigh mounted and you simply let them fly as a last ditch effort when everything else has run dry, they're too hot for anything other than shots of opportunity, you only get one shot anyways, and they don't do enough damage per missile to justify any use beyond crit-seeking a stripped target.
