Republic space:
It has been a long time since the height of the war, when cities crumbled like paper and supplies became death machines. When you're not on the war border your planet is typically peaceful. Sure, most houses look utilitarian, but wallpaper isn't illegal. Infrastructure is solid, life is easy, and the only thing to worry about is military outposts getting bored and misusing their equipment, but depending on the person you may find it funny.
Alliance space:
The factory planets rest quietly, the home fleet stays longer between each jump. The peace is unsettling, because the Alliance has only known the war as it's purpose. Each deck is more bustling than ever, but it is in relative silence. The shops on the commercial decks seem to be retrofitting for living in the stead of surviving. As 70 years of war crawls to it's end, the Orion Alliance dreams of a normal life.
Hylotl space:
The Empire has been wondering when the neighbors would quiet down. The technological ends surrounds you with the flashiest infrastructure to date, metal and plastic turned from necessary to decadent fronds and frills. Truly, you live in the future. No two skyscrapers look the same, but thankfully not your walls.
Anodyne space:
You're not quite sure what the Hylotl are doing. Despite the current... political issues the states are facing, life is simple, you're not on a war, nothing is going wrong with the wormholes, and maybe the megacorps will stop buying all the surplus metal so contractors can build a different building for once. Every house looks like a spaceship and could probably be retrofitted into one.
Worlds space:
Considering the United Worlds has the infrastructure to defeat a megacorp, in comparison to years before, you're wondering why the other factions refuse to put UW on the map. Two hundred species now live in the shared planets, a melting pot of life and culture. Faction-interior companies are slowly rising to the top, replacing government production of... pretty much everything.
Spacer space:
The propaganda about how Freespace is full of lawless pirates is a downright lie almost all of the time. Scattered across the galaxy, tight-knit colonies live on self-sufficiency.
So, war's on it's last legs, everyone's happy, and the adventure you guys are going to embark on has a good chance of destroying all their peace and prosperity.
hooray for spurring wars!
