Note: faction explanations are an average guideline, not strict requirements.
The Orion Alliance and The Republic of Terra
It is a lull in the war. Both sides stand guard, watching, waiting. Civilians step out into the calm. Explorers hurry in their seek. New military technologies are being created, tested in hidden orbital labs. The temporary peace is yet another advantage. But it has been 70 years of constant war, and through the brightly colored propaganda, the carefully selected news, and the subconscious search for justification, the question now stands tall: who is right in this war, if either at all?
The Alliance and The Republic play similarly but not exactly, and are easy to play. They have very little difference in technology, with only a few unique technologies in each side. On average, both have fair knowledge and don't need to ask too many questions, and Alliance races will have learned one additional language besides their native one and Common. Note that both sides have similar relationships with other factions, so your choice only effects your relationship with the other side, and your starting view on the relationship between freedom and safety. However, the Republic is primarily Humans, while the Alliance is an equal mix. Your conflict is the least involved in the galaxy and mostly concerns the two sides.
