The reason why there are faction-wide conflicts as well as internal and overarching is because how someone approaches a problem says a lot about them. They're meant as a mechanic to define a character, as well as effect how that character acts.I don't really understand why every faction has to be involved in a conflict of some sort. I'm sure everyone will have their problems, but on such a large scale and all at once? Makes it seem like the entire galaxy is falling apart.
In other definitions of "not fun", I am attempting to inform everyone how fluid the systems actually are, so they aren't taken as strict focuses. A problem like this happened with D&D: their original combat system was simple because it wasn't strictly the only way to do combat, and the players could get creative and do some fun shit with the system with DM help, and same thing happened with the roll-with-attributes system. Players forgot what both were supposed to be, and when they languished over how it was no longer fun, WotC had to patch it with talents and skills, both very rigid systems meant to fix a more rigid system.
I do not want to be strict with stuff, which is why I'm caring about what you write, so the systems actually require some creativity on my part. You want to swing a piece of rebar to hit three enemies at once? Sure, why not. You want to blow a hole in a door with a plasma gun? Alright. The systems aren't rigid at all if you just write and let me worry about how to make it work.
The randomisation system I think is fine, now that we eliminated most things that don't make sense. Still, there is something about this setup that bothers me but I can't quite put my finger on it...
Anyway, I originally came here mostly to give advice about possible technology and physics. I had started to write down a new race, but I gave up on that. Maybe I will at least introduce the Pirate Faction. If not, call me when help with the things I mentioned earlier.
First, they are called faction conflicts not because the faction must solve it, but because it's an internal conflict common to all in the faction, and the answer will differ between people.
The randomization is meant to prevent me from having total control over whether or not a PC wins against an NPC. I don't want to feel like a dictator, but I don't want everyone to win every single battle. Thus, dice roll.
I would gladly take advice on physics and tech. Also, the Pirate Kingdoms are NPC-only, mostly because they're so well known for being cesspools that they can't do anything in Empire space, boss, pirate, or civilian. Smaller pirate factions who don't pop up on Empire radar don't have this problem, but they're basically Spacers anyways.
