I know what the hell computers can be used for. I am not fucking stupid, or ignorant. I just wanted to let the players have another way to do something. I am aware computers are far better at it. I know computers are the best option for everything. Whatever fucking thing about computers you think I am not aware of, you are wrong, because it is a conscious ignorance, with a conscious purpose. You seem to be missing the fact that I have outlined several times now: I am not doing this because I don't know shit about computer-controled guns. I am doing this for player fun.(01-04-2016, 06:18 PM)SilverOtter Wrote: The point is not to have a fully explained environment with reasonable visions of the future. I thought the comparisons to Star Trek should have tipped you off. The point was to have a "fun" crew-based adventure across some galaxy or another.A computer can easily track and hit anything moving in uniform motion.
As an example, the intentional vagueness was part of trying to not to end up in the same trap as the original plans: too many rules and limits. The point is to be fun to play, not to be the plot of a twenty-book scifi series.
Oh, and that explanation was pseudoscience bullshit I made up on the spot from several ideas I did have nailed down, to try and placate you, because why are you nitpicking details that I did not intend to matter?
If the target moves erratically, as something trying to dodge enemy fire tends to do, the computers guess is as good as yours. In fact, it would probably be less successful than if a crew member controlled the turret.
Then again, none of this matters as we were talking about point defence, which usually won't be shooting at other ships and asteroids aren't really a threat to begin with.
And I used the word "Point Defense" because it gives a good idea of the size, pretty small, meant for one person.
I spent a year deeply explaining an entire universe, and now I want a break from having to justify FTL engine #5. I did work that was blasted for not conforming to some mystical sci-fi standards, and now I get blasted for having none at all. I just want to host a fucking fun RP, is that too much to ask?
