But, and let me say this again, that is not fun. I know what the hell computers can be used for. I am not fucking stupid, or ignorant. I just wanted to let the players have another way to do something. I am aware computers are far better at it. I know computers are the best option for everything. Whatever fucking thing about computers you think I am not aware of, you are wrong, because it is a conscious ignorance, with a conscious purpose. You seem to be missing the fact that I have outlined several times now: I am not doing this because I don't know shit about computer-controled guns. I am doing this for player fun.The problem you seem to be having is that you always go to the extremes and a bit further for good measure.
And I used the word "Point Defense" because it gives a good idea of the size, pretty small, meant for one person.
I spent a year deeply explaining an entire universe, and now I want a break from having to justify FTL engine #5. I did work that was blasted for not conforming to some mystical sci-fi standards, and now I get blasted for having none at all. I just want to host a fucking fun RP, is that too much to ask?
Having too much of something is just as bad as having too little of something.
And if FUN is your concern, consider this: Having your character sit in the point defence turret pretty much all the time just in case there is something that needs to be shot is not exactly interesting.
On the other hand, actual combat turrets (which according to my previous suggestion, are manual), only get manned once there is a reason to do so.
Of course, you could say that you don't have to be at the point defence all the time either but it would still be a nuisance to constantly have to go to your turret because one asteroid is flying a bit too close to the ship.
So basically, if you want players to have fun, engage them in things that are actually interesting (in this instance, that is implied to be space combat or something similar), instead of making them do chores.
Point defense > Combat Turrets
Done.
