A perpendicular hallway streches to both sides, which must be the border between two blocks. There aren't any doorways in this perimeter hall.
Down the left side of the hall, you can see a window at the end, the right stretches on to other blocks, across the ship.

Silver is trying to memorize the symbols for the different halls as he goes along.

He sees the window, but since he figures the ship will take a while to actually start moving, he decides to go right instead.
As you go right, you see many variations on Crystals within Squares, thorny, burning, shattered, until you reach a crossroad between blocks. You can see a map nearby at the entrance of the hall to your right.

// Yes, yes, and no.

Aren is inside the corvette, doing some final checks on all the gear, if nothing else tearing down the gear and rebuilding it was a reliable time sink.

He goes over and looks over the map, attempting to locate the mess hall, or some other suitable location for watching the launch.

The open air of the sealed hangar echos the otherwise quiet hums of electronics and machinery. The standard gear consists of a lightly armored spacesuit, it's helmet, a standard rifle, plus various doodads of scanning or recording nature.

You look at the map and remember the problem with them: This map only shows the local area of this floor. However, the edges do have helpful arrows pointing to the nearest elevator in that direction, where the should be a general ship map.
Primarily going over the scanning equipment, Aren also checks a few systems on the corvette, finding nothing out of order so far.

Silver examines the halls on the map carefully before heading for the closest elevator.

Roll for Perception [You: 9] [Some idiot: 6]

No, something's wrong. The thrusters have been completely unbalanced, like someone just bashed their head against the board and thought everything would be okay. This would crash instantly.

"Engineering is NOT the place to be cutting corners damnit..."
Aren sets about recalibrating the thrusters to work properly.

The ship has been still this entire time, still anchored to the orbital dock. Finally, it seems, speakers scattered throughout the ship crackle to life.

"All crew, this is Bridge Officer Vivian. Before liftoff, our Captain would like to make a speech."

The captain goes off into a long speech about discovery and our purpose in life, about truth and science, yadayadayada. Most of you aren't listening and everyone else quickly forgets the details.

Oh God, he's still talking.

"...As the crew of this Deep Space Battlecruiser, the Second Eden, our mission is to seek out this new universe, now open to us."

There is a bit of silence before the Bridge Officer takes back the mic.

"All crew, prepare for undock and warp to Oort Station."

Call your first action.

Sasha is found walking down a nondescript hallway as the captain makes his speech, not even pausing momentarily (although it does prompt her to wonder "what happened to the first Eden?").

She seems in a rush to get somewhere, but there is nowhere to be. Perhaps that's just the way she walks everywhere.
Calis sits idly in the engine room, above the main floor, waiting for her shift. Eventually she begins descending to ground level sometime shortly after the captain's speech.

Probably.
In fact, that's the only reason she hadn't cleaned the room yet...
You wait for Engineering to activate the engines. You are prepared... And wait. And wait. And wait. And wait.

This is going to be a while.

Patience is a virtue, and thus Cross kept waiting...well, for a few more minutes. Just in case the ship decided to shake more. Once she figured she was in the clear, she stood up, straightened her uniform (examining it to make sure it was on right), and headed out of the room.

You know the mess halls are a few levels below. The elevator is right next to the map, and you can hear it coming up.

You properly set the center of thrust for all 6 directions to proper positions, instead of being in some crazy setting where you couldn't even see them on the small screen.

You are currently in the botanical sector. A few gardeners are walking down the hallway but quickly move to the side in your wake.

As you reach ground floor, a wave of shouts reaches the cavernous engine room.

"Engine test!"

"Engine test!"

"Engine test!"

"Engine test!"

"Engine test!"

"Engine test!"

"Engine test!"

It seems they can't use the mic system.
(does everyone report directly to the captain/appropriate department head or what?)

Silver's large ears twitch at the sound of the approaching elevator. As he waits for it, he tries to find the quickest path from the mess hall to the fighter bay, just for future reference.

((What exactly could happen here? Like with the plasma engines and all, what could happen to anyone inside the room at the time of them being activated?))
Aren sends a quick report to engineering
"Corvette engines improperly balanced, corrected settings, will inspect again in one week to see if system is at fault."
He then wraps up his inspection.

"Argh, how the hell did I end up here?"

Sasha decides it would probably be best to do something remotely resembling her job. She continues around the floor, scanning carefully for any kind of exit or map which can show her the layout of the ship and point her to somewhere useful.

// Nothing. You're not in the engine itself, and magnetic fields prevent the plasma from touching containment, and in space there's no filler gas to transfer that heat anyways.

((Ah, okay.))
Calis casually begins walking toward the exit, heading for Logistics.
