I got bored, so have the spiritual successor to the original Paladin list. Only this time, it's canon.

THINGS REPUBLIC OUTPOST VERNA-IIA PERSONNEL ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO DO

  1. No longer allowed to use Arthur tanks in joyrides.
  2. No longer allowed to use Naga VTOLs in joyrides.
  3. No longer allowed to use transport jeeps in joyrides.
  4. After the following incident last night, involving intent to haze a lieutenant, 6 hookers being purchased at once, and a flattened city block, all base personnel are no longer allowed to preform joyrides.
  5. Congratulations on bringing Lt. [Redacted] to awareness on his Psi abilities. Unfortunately, due to dangerous circumstances under which these were revealed, Monopoly has been removed from the boardgame rotation.
  6. Due to the hospitalization of an entire combat squadron, Sorry! has also been removed from rotation.
  7. The mechs are not toys, they are machines of war. Please refrain from attempting to re-create mecha battles from century-old cartoons.
  8. 2th Lt. [Redacted], your "special" underpants have been confiscated.
  9. Please stop making detailed descriptions of the Averson incident. Not only were none of you there, but the rookies are getting PTSD before their first deployment.
  10. Please refer to file OH-17 as to the results of attempting advances on the Armory Master.

...
Sounds like a fun place!
Also 2th Lt.? Is that above or below 3st? d:
More.
  1. Psychics are not Psyconauts, and it wrong to call them this.
  2. Not even Spc. Rasputin.
  3. Please stop calling him "Raz".
  4. Natural Psychics are not required to be shaved bald and wear monk robes.
  5. Augmented Psychics are not required to have a mowhawk in a garishly bright color.
  6. The Hat Stacking Championships have been postponed.
  7. Whoever took Major [Redacted]'s truck, we found one of the tires on the roof of a nearby bar. Please come to his office for congratulations and subsequent discharge.
  8. Please make sure Red Valley is clear of enemy combatants before attempting a race. We do not care how much more "epic" it is racing under fire.

Noo, not the Hat Stacking Championship!

  1. We have found another piece of Major [Redacted]'s truck. Pfc. [Redacted], your DNA was found on it.
  2. Take that hat off.
  3. Not allowed to have hats within hats.
  4. Not allowed to have hats within hats within hats.
  5. Not allowed to have hats within hats within hats within hats.
  6. Not allowed to have any amount of hats within hats to any point of recursion.
  7. Spc. [Redacted], the unknown mircostructures found in your hair during inspection turned out to be nano-fedoras. They have been destroyed by the lab team.
  8. Private [Redacted], dressing up as a convincing psychopomp is congratulatory. Convincing Captain [Redacted] that he was dead, however, is not.
  9. If you are currently glowing green, your are not irradiated. You have accidentally swallowed deployable night-glow, and need to report to the medical staff so we may discover what the algae do to human biology.
I've been thinking about Sirius' race/ethnicity/whatever, and I have to ask... By "Caucasian," do you mean all cultures or whatever with 'white' skin tones or only certain ones?
Question: Would a relatively powerful psionic, with a few years of practice, be able to keep an almost constant mental communication link open with someone who spends most of their time right next to them?

White skin tones eventually died out due to it not being a evolutionary bonus on space, as darker skin colors are more protective against direct sun.

Science.

Yes.

So... The skin tones changed, but not the human 'races' themselves?

I really want to point out something... but... From what happened last time it probably wouldn't be a good idea...

Not really. That was because I got pissed again that I couldn't change the Avali without creating an angry mob.

Mmm... Well okay I'll point this out but you can gladly choose to ignore it or come up with an explaination or whatever.
Evolution happens over a ridiculously long time (like millions of years before even very unnessessary traits disappear) and requires natural selection to happen, which, considering Humans mate with whoever they want, including people who may have "unwanted" genetic conditions, natural selection is basically nonexistent for us... Meaning unless everyone with those skin colors were actually killed off directly, they would likely still exist in large quantities, space or no space.
Actually it's noticable within mere thousands of years not millions. Sometimes even just a couple hundred depending on life span of species(or even ten or less with flies). And things kill off the inadequately adapted in a larger number of ways than you'd think. Whether it's through death before breeding or while pregnant cancer and radiation exposure do not care. For example. Meaning over long periods of time (only about a thousand) You'd either have a little darker skin or you'd have a VERY high chance of gene mutations. Crippling or lethal ones. It's a lot harsher than you like to think I'm sorry to say. Meaning Caucasians would end up at some point consisting entirely of a bunch of cripples with constant pain and really short life spans.

You would think... Except that anyone with half a brain would be inclined to give spaceships, stations, etc. radiation protection, because while darker skin may protect you from certain radiation somewhat, it wouldn't be enough to make a big difference in space, I'm sure. And almost any habitable planet Humans would try to live on would have an atomosphere which would diffuse much of the radiation. But whatever, once again I'm being nitpicky.

In order for this to really matter, the humans would have to be exposed to the radiation directly, meaning they would have to be in open space without an EVA suit. That would probably kill anyone, regardless of skin colour.
At least the vacuum of space isn't racist.
Well I guess it's time to talk about...

VOID ENERGY: A MISNOMER, SERIOUSLY

Void Energy, confusingly, is a sub-particle that was discovered separately by all major races during their early space age. It has properties like no other sub-particle, and were it not for it's remaining properties, it might as well not be one. It exists in thankfully small quantities, spread thinly throughout the galaxy, with no unusual clumps or holes in this layer besides those made by sentient species.

Void Energy is called a variation of "has no energy" in all known languages, due to the property that it cannot be heated, or vibrate. Thankfully, the particle is capable of movement, as it otherwise would be useless. It is said that the human scientist who discovered for his race declared it had "void energy" rather than "0 energy", although it is disputable whether or not this actually happened, and that the name stuck in the general populace, much to the dismay of scientists everywhere.

The Major Races discovered this particle during the search for other, more elusive ones, almost always because of misconfigured equipment capturing it. As a example, the humans discovered it in their particle nets during the search for dark matter (which has yet to be found) when the nanonets were given an incorrect charge that caused it to react to the field Void Energy emits, which warped and ripped the nets apart.

The greatest property of Void Energy is that, under highly specific environments, it will bind to atoms and "awaken" a property of that atom. This ranges from Iron's artificial gravity, to Adamantium's extreme elasticity. However, 80% of all elements have an unknown environment, and the 20% were found by a combination of blind luck and the relatively simple environments most had. An example of complex environments is Triarch, which requires that it be surrounded by an alloy consisting of several powders but not be contained in this alloy, and be brought to 7 degrees kelvin, upon which the Triarch gains the property of expelling itself from the local area of other atoms.

However, working with raw Void Energy is highly dangerous to living creatures due to an unexplained property of unbound Void Energy. In large quantities, Void energy will passively effect the body of a living creature in complex and arcane ways [for those who want examples, just look at how the public used to view radiation: it would either give you superpowers, mutate you, or otherwise change your body in strange ways]. It is unknown how the particle can do it so precisely and thoroughly.

Creating unneeded excess of void-infused materials is considered wasteful, as there is no known way to separate the particle from the atom once it is bound.

This is really awesome! I'm curious as to what other bizzare properties bound atoms have :3
