VOID ENERGY: A MISNOMER, SERIOUSLY

Void Energy, confusingly, is a sub-particle that was discovered separately by all major races during their early space age. It has properties like no other sub-particle, and were it not for it's remaining properties, it might as well not be one. It exists in thankfully small quantities, spread thinly throughout the galaxy, with no unusual clumps or holes in this layer besides those made by sentient species.

Void Energy is called a variation of "has no energy" in all known languages, due to the property that it cannot be heated, or vibrate. Thankfully, the particle is capable of movement, as it otherwise would be useless. It is said that the human scientist who discovered for his race declared it had "void energy" rather than "0 energy", although it is disputable whether or not this actually happened, and that the name stuck in the general populace, much to the dismay of scientists everywhere.

The Major Races discovered this particle during the search for other, more elusive ones, almost always because of misconfigured equipment capturing it. As a example, the humans discovered it in their particle nets during the search for dark matter (which has yet to be found) when the nanonets were given an incorrect charge that caused it to react to the field Void Energy emits, which warped and ripped the nets apart.

The greatest property of Void Energy is that, under highly specific environments, it will bind to atoms and "awaken" a property of that atom. This ranges from Iron's artificial gravity, to Adamantium's extreme elasticity. However, 80% of all elements have an unknown environment, and the 20% were found by a combination of blind luck and the relatively simple environments most had. An example of complex environments is Triarch, which requires that it be surrounded by an alloy consisting of several powders but not be contained in this alloy, and be brought to 7 degrees kelvin, upon which the Triarch gains the property of expelling itself from the local area of other atoms.

However, working with raw Void Energy is highly dangerous to living creatures due to an unexplained property of unbound Void Energy. In large quantities, Void energy will passively effect the body of a living creature in complex and arcane ways [for those who want examples, just look at how the public used to view radiation: it would either give you superpowers, mutate you, or otherwise change your body in strange ways]. It is unknown how the particle can do it so precisely and thoroughly.

Creating unneeded excess of void-infused materials is considered wasteful, as there is no known way to separate the particle from the atom once it is bound.
Heck yes.
Me likey.
Void Energy sounds good so far. I think it might even be plausible like this in reality...
On the other hand, they still haven't found out what dark matter is?

I would like to talk about some fictional hazardous substances that we could use in our rp.
I love how everyone is saying "yes, brilliant!" and it's the same properties it had in the original with some fancy unimportant doodads attached.

Dark matter is hypothesized to exist, but we have no idea what possible properties it could have besides the one it was thought up for.

The roof on elements was already raised, knock yourself out.

I know that we don't know what dark matter is, but you would expect that by the time the RP takes place, they would have figured it out.

It's because they're looking in the wrong places.
Well we already know light has both the properties of a wave and a particle.  The only thing known in existance to have two actual states that are active at the same time at all times.  (solid liquid and aerated are physical not chemical)

So whats to say things like this aren't viable?  Super heated objects provide slight amounts of light etcetra.

It's the little things that matter the most Silver. The little things that matter the most.

Except all the awakened properties involve drawing energy from an unknown source.

Some of them do, but not others.

No, but I believe some of the properties you have mentioned already do not create energy.

Besides that, there is no real argument here, is there?

Not creating energy, require energy, and the scientists don't know where it's coming from.

Which would make people assume it is creating energy, even though that can't be possible.
Since there is a subtle call for this to become my soulsworn job, here's a brief overview of the large chunk of the galaxy currently not in someone else's crosshairs in an attempt to avoid turning this into 40k.

Republic space:
It has been a long time since the height of the war, when cities crumbled like paper and supplies became death machines. When you're not on the war border your planet is typically peaceful. Sure, most houses look utilitarian, but wallpaper isn't illegal. Infrastructure is solid, life is easy, and the only thing to worry about is military outposts getting bored and misusing their equipment, but depending on the person you may find it funny.

Alliance space:
The factory planets rest quietly, the home fleet stays longer between each jump. The peace is unsettling, because the Alliance has only known the war as it's purpose. Each deck is more bustling than ever, but it is in relative silence. The shops on the commercial decks seem to be retrofitting for living in the stead of surviving. As 70 years of war crawls to it's end, the Orion Alliance dreams of a normal life.

Hylotl space:
The Empire has been wondering when the neighbors would quiet down. The technological ends surrounds you with the flashiest infrastructure to date, metal and plastic turned from necessary to decadent fronds and frills. Truly, you live in the future. No two skyscrapers look the same, but thankfully not your walls.

Anodyne space:
You're not quite sure what the Hylotl are doing. Despite the current... political issues the states are facing, life is simple, you're not on a war, nothing is going wrong with the wormholes, and maybe the megacorps will stop buying all the surplus metal so contractors can build a different building for once. Every house looks like a spaceship and could probably be retrofitted into one.

Worlds space:
Considering the United Worlds has the infrastructure to defeat a megacorp, in comparison to years before, you're wondering why the other factions refuse to put UW on the map. Two hundred species now live in the shared planets, a melting pot of life and culture. Faction-interior companies are slowly rising to the top, replacing government production of... pretty much everything.

Spacer space:
The propaganda about how Freespace is full of lawless pirates is a downright lie almost all of the time. Scattered across the galaxy, tight-knit colonies live on self-sufficiency.

So, war's on it's last legs, everyone's happy, and the adventure you guys are going to embark on has a good chance of destroying all their peace and prosperity.

Knowing how RPs go here, I don't doubt this statement one bit.

One war. I doubt you guys would fuck up so badly that you would cause a diplomatic incident, but hey. In the meantime let's just say there are big plans in store.

And something tells me you all will have so much fun completely nullifying them.

I steal the pedestal and ignore the shiny.
Although seriously if you guys pull stuff so blatantly meant to be off track, instead of side ventures connected to your background, I will force you to preform rolls to succeed.
