In all seriousness a Coalition baserunner is probably the best idea. It's a high profile 6-wheeled buggy designed for uneven and inhospitable terrain, and is large enough to either serve as a hauler or completely self sustained mobile campsite.

Ah fuck, the Cyrus jokes hid this question from me. Basically, it needs the backstory rewritten to someone who has been in a civilization made of multiple species in a single solar system.

They're meant to supplement the offensive and defensive capacities of the ship, and have no need to be atmospherically stable. There's also the problem that planets can have different gravities and atmosphere densities. Finally, not having large amounts of mass far out to the sides makes maneuvers in all directions much easier. 

So, kinda realistic. Maybe a blocky pod with thrusters and guns, or some wilder but still conservative design.
