But wouldn't you need a brain to have psionic capabilities? Ironically, I don't think a motherboard could compensate if being a psychic was the overall goal...

That all depends on whether or not psychic abilities are to do with the physical brain or the overarching conciousness/soul. I'd say the latter would make more sense to attach the Pseudoscientificnonmagic to, which means if the mind was still connected to the replacement device then it would still be able to, presumably. Kind of like the whole idea that if your brain was very slowly replaced with mechanical neurons, cell by cell, over the course of years, you wouldn't even be aware of the switch and it would still feel like your mind, unlike if your brain was replaced directly and suddenly.
Whelp I guess I have to raise the Psi restriction.

How does 1.4 sound to you guys? You can do mind throttling and almost do sensory override!*

*Don't expect every single character to get the O.K. to be 1.4. Because of the barrier cliff that is 1.0, there are very few Psionics and even fewer as you go up ranks. Don't even try two 1.4 characters at the same time, or even in a row.

Although, to note, one's Psi presence has a correlation to the average of your parents. This, by the way, allows for goverments/companies/drug lords on the scale of governments and companies to basically play Pokemon with Psionics if you're willing to go through the pain of raising a kid with 1.5 Psi packed into his/her brain. Just never ask how there always seem to be parents with good psi levels.

Also to note: Once in a blue moon, I might let a character above 1.4 in. But you better be prepared to play that part, because the repercussions of your psi powers will come down hard.

Speaking of which, could you go into more detail about the reprucussions?
"This [the psi number] can either be raised through years of training and/or psi use, or by invasive cybernetics and the complimentary chemical cocktails. Unsurprisingly, one raises your lifespan and the other drastically cuts it short."

What reprocussions face natural psionics who don't use cybernetic or chemical augmentation? Judging by the whole parent thing, too, I assume psionic powers are at least somewhat influenced by genetics?

Well, Psionics is an output of power, and all that power just doesn't come out a perpetual motion machine stored inside your head. So, it sucks from your body reserves of energy, meaning a Psionic may have anywhere from twice to five times the metabolism normals have. Hope you like being hungry every waking moment of your life, with the only release being sources of carbohydrates that stopped tasting good a decade ago! As a result, Psionics have minimal muscle mass, weak immune system, and basically fragile everything.

Oh, and although high-Psi babies are tested, and it does show they have that Psi level immediately, it doesn't suddenly make training easier. as they found out, it only makes it marginally easier. But that margin is good enough for the top towers of corruption to enforce sins against the laws of god and man in the quest to make the ultimate Psi warrior, dirt cheap!

Also, when you start having untrained Psionics above 1.2, things start happening. Outbursts of raw Psi, to be exact: If regular Psi is a Vulcan neck pinch, raw Psi is a throat strangle. These outbursts are triggered by stress or stressful emotions, and are completely out of the Psionic's control, meaning the only way to stop them is to wait for their energy reserves to run out, which ends with the Psionic falling unconscious.

I make such lovely ability systems.

So psionics are always venting their energy at a violently increased rate even when not actually using their abilities for anything?

Might as well layer that on there. New first skill: learn how to expel excess energy safely.

Well I just assumed that because you talked about their metabolism being overactive and their bodies frail, but if a psionic didn't use their powers often that wouldn't make sense unless their energy was being taken too much anyway.

Edit: Basically what I meant wasn't their excess energy but their energy in general. It doesn't make sense for them to need a fast metabolism unless they vent s large amount of energy 24/7.

Listen.

First my brain starts with a simple idea.

From there layers of complexity pop up at random throughout the day.

That wasn't in the first draft because I didn't think of it.

Sigh...

I HEREBY DECLARE IT IS A "THING".
Can we make it so there is no god materials for armour like quantum crystalline from Star Wars?
That shit's OP.
I wonder if I would be able to be in the RP withou having a character.

But graphene must be a thing.

Or marx has no skeleton.

If graphene is a thing, steel should be too!

Every armor has one weakness. How broad that weakness is inversely proportional to how effective it is against everything else.

Example: Armor that infinitely survives fucktons of lasers? Apply force, like just punching it! Armor that slightly resists lasers? Get a kinetic weapon ready and hit the point where the metal is thinnest.

Universal law right there.

"I have anti-universal law armor."--*Is retconned out of existence*

Another example that actually happened- that super tough armor that one Republic soldier had with a spine exposure.
I know I'm probably a bit late for this, but what if there was a large, star system spanning company that made some of the high tech technology and sold it? You know, kinda like interstellar Apple.

They're an empire and they're called the hylotl. Take your pick from the thousands of companies within.

Or if you ditched the flashy doodads and want tech proven to work on the occasion, novakids.

Graphene is not a god material.
Quantum Crystalline is near indestructible.

I like the first idea, Empires work.

This is Quantum Crystalline, it's resistant to fucking supernovas.

Nothing like that, okay?
Also, no nuclear weapons.
