Magic is, by definition, "the art of producing a desired effect or result through the use of incantation or various other techniques, that presumably assure human control of supernatural agencies or the forces of nature".

The Final Fantasy series feature many different methodologies and schools of magic, which is used in many different ways, manipulating the various forces and essences of nature through knowledge or various items, sometimes even bordering on scientific and technological methods similar to magic itself.

It should be noted however that use of Magic in the series is not exclusive to the respective Magic command available in each game. For example games like Final Fantasy IX or Final Fantasy X feature abilities that require MP to use, but that aren't considered on the usual Magic Schools like White or Black, but regardless cause effects that could be considered unnatural or superhuman such as poisoning an enemy, or debilitating him. Some games also feature Limit Break abilities that can range from healing and protective, to destructive blasts of energy or surpassing normal physical boundaries, by attacking an enemy multiple times on succession. These abilities are in most cases used without MP consumption and for gameplay purposes using a different condition or meter to be filled, while in comparison Quickenings do consume MP (albeit segmented in Mist Charges). Much on the same vein Technicks are another system of supernatural abilities that require no MP to be used and is seen as a contrast and parallel to Magick.

Therefore although Magic could be considered overall as any manipulation of energies to achieve feats beyond normal human capabilities, the many different abilities with similar workings, makes it impossible to have a true definition of what is Magic and what is not, with said delimitations being explained as in the case of Technicks and sometimes not truly defined, or just separated for gameplay purposes but not further defined. This in exchange makes the range of Magic incredibly vast but also vague
//now where do i find the explanation of MP, ugh too many games to search, and i can't think of my own good way of explaining that, maybe it is just basic energy and ethers are just basically energy drinks, it just doesn't show this in game because well it would be kinda strange to do so.

// while all this is much better, it's still not a good expiration, I've never really played a FF game, but I do have some basic clues as to how things work in a game view, not so much In a lore view. If you can't explain something yourself, having to copy-paste, I don't think you understand it well enough. All I got from you post looks like a fan-written wiki article, I don't understanding of.

//while this is really fucking cool, I'm not sure if I can really be used here... Depends strongly on the disciple and interlect/wisdom of the person using this system. They can probably find a grey area or two where no one really knows how one thing might translate into another or use things like "I'm falling from a cliff and use the tiny amounts of heat generated from the air friction and impact to throw a fireball!" Sort of stuff. (Though they might break their legs in this case) and what if two buffers are used in such a scenario? One to fiddle with the tiny amounts of heat generated and one to fiddle with the kinetic energy?
// though it could probably be used for a nifty DnD ruleset. If all the players and DM had a masters degree in physics.

//well i do understand it, using thought and concentration the mages are able to manipulate heat, electricity, cold, and create matter temporarily, they have a limited source of MP which allows then to do this, but the onyl way to regain this MP is to sleep or drink an ether which is basically an energy drink, but i what i do not know how to find is what exactly makes this possible the MP to be more specific, what exactly is it, energy from the earth or something else maybe some psychic power, or a hidden potential that that people tap into, or maybe it's some kind of energy that is every where but slowly blocks the use of it to the user until he takes a break and nourishes himself whether it be rest, eating or drinking, it is then set back t a certain block, through training he can widen this starting block to use greater magic.... i think i'll go with what i just said.

//well the concentration thing comes from the FF 4 after years and i'm not sure how bet- wait maybe the energy can be accessed by doing some sort of concentration, and when you do that afterwards you have temporary use of the type of energy you wanted out of the different types of energy but only for a few seconds so you better be quick, this adds up to the time needed to preform one spell, and there are different types of energy but the block applies for all types of energy, and well MP hmm that is going to be hard, but the energies would be all called the same thing, so uhh maybe h darn i have no idea what to name it, maybe... the force i'm joking, maybe just life and if i ever establish lore for this i can say the people who figured out how to do this believed the energy when mixed together creates life, but people can't get to the level of combining these energies to create life, the closest thing they can get to is making living things repair themselves, this would mean healing takes more energy and would close the block faster.
Well.. guess its getting somewhat late..

Best make a camp.. i don't know where i can be safe at here..
(Okay time out just a second here. I believe there is a VERY SERIOUS problem in this RP with people being grossly overpowered, to the point where it would be impossible to do any kind of real plot because everybody would instantly know the solution to the puzzle or instakill the final boss.)

Yes, I see this too. People shouldn't be able to just handwave apocalyptic events and then undo them just as easily.

In fact doing much at all using magic should leave you exhausted VERY QUICKLY, to the point where you literally can only use your abilities a couple of times a day before being too drained to move. Similar for technology- it runs out of power after only a couple of shots, and cannot do much more than chop down a tree or blast open a door.

YOU, stop being such an IDIOT. You very clearly know how to RP properly as demonstrated by the nice chat our characters had earlier. But I would prefer not to have to use my access to actually moderate, I don't know you guys well enough to fairly moderate you other than correcting obvious problems and cleaning up spam.

I will have a word with Ehksidian about what it would take to get a couple of people promoted so that we can keep things at least orderly.

Now, my apologies for suddenly locking the thread, but it seemed like people were getting a little stirred up to the point of wanting to quit RPing.

Such drastic actions like character deaths and ragequits are not neccessary.

But EVERYBODY needs to nerf their characters to comply with the following:

- We are NOT gods. We do not know everything, we cannot DO everything.

- Technology has its limits, very clearly and well marked. Yes it can bring you back from near death with a suitable apparatus, but you're not going to get handwave level undoing an apocalypse unless everyone has agreed upon the existance of an installation capable of doing so.

- The same with magic as with technology. Evne time travel is pushing it, making and destroying worlds is beyond. Even I was pushing more than I like earlier having Danu successfully defend her home. And again it has a price to use it.

- No more of this doomsday device/spell/natural disaster. It only annoys people, and since it gets instantly retconned anyway all you are accomplishing is making people mad at you.

YOU, stop being such an IDIOT. You very clearly know how to RP properly as demonstrated by the nice chat our characters had earlier. But it seems like most of the RP you spend wandering around being the dumbest character I have ever seen written, when you aren't trying to destroy yourself or everything around you.

STOP THAT. ITS ANNOYING AND MAKES PEOPLE IGNORE YOU.

THAT SAID...
EVERYONE (and you know who I mean by that) TONE IT DOWN. Yes, magic may be a thing, but this is getting ridiculous. Yes it does say nonserious in the title but come on...

This.

Ehksidian is not the only person with moderator/administrator access just so you folk are aware of that.

//WRT nominating more staff - ehks said he's intended to do this for a while but never gotten around to it. I think that's the only thing really (though, perhaps, there hasn't really been a need for more staff as of yet either but that could be changing).

Yeah, I have to admit I'm guilty of at least two things on this list... I don't really like using that whole "altering reality" thing if I can help it, and there is a toll being taken with what I've been doing... It's just that nobody knows it yet.
(that, and I don't quite know exactly where to put it/how to explain it)

Then... you're dead? :p
Apologies for disappearing for a bit - was playing a game with a friend.
I have been wanting to promote some folks for a bit, but, again, I haven't gotten around to it at all yet, and...I'm not sure who to promote. I don't want to promote people who aren't willing, but I don't want to promote anyone and everyone who volunteers. I intended to get...a kind of application thread up, but, again, I haven't gotten around to it.
Sorry. It's my fault.

//Dead. Done. Removed From Game. Time to get your dice out and roll up a brand new character.

//Death is PERMANENT.

The regular earthquakes had begun to annoy Danu a little as she was trying to cook and keep her house neat despite the chaos outside.

She had ended up going around fastening things into their proper places.

Out in her yard a lantern had been placed on top of the monument.
