"Now this doesn't make sense... its the reactor that needs cooling not this room." Danu gasped, the coolant depriving her of air again. She fumbled with the controls, looking for a way to force the emergency shutdown.

Though if the system had detected a meltdown in progress, a sanely designed system should have already initiated such an emergency shutdown all by itself.

"Umbra come in! Never mind simulating a core breach, we have a full scale core breach in progress! Get the others off the ship, it will soon be without power anyway due to reactor failure and the remains of the hull will help shield them. I've gotta stop this reactor before it explodes!"

Danu had found a fire blanket in a cabinent and wrapped herself with the metallic foil, providing some protection against the blasting flows of coolant.

By now she had already reached lethal exposures to radiation, as she floated one of her orbs into the hole in the reactor's shielding to see just how much of it was exposed.

Working at the control panels, Danu commanded the reactor to lower as many control rods as it could. But from what she could see of the damage, several of the rods were broken off or had mangled mechanisms from the impact damage.

She turns her attention to the shell, having been made of spent nuclear materials. As such it would be a pretty good absorber, but laying on top of the damaged reactor it might not be enough to stop the runaway.

Even though the reactor was on the verge of melting itself down, the room she was in seemed to get continually colder from all the escaped coolant.

Looking through some debris on the floor, she finds a length of pipe to use as a lever, and starts to pry on the shell to force it the rest of the way into the reactor chamber.

WHAT?! Why is it still at full power? I swear if I ever find out who built this reactor I am going to put them inside one and let them sizzle.

Danu was kind of pissed now, this reactor was leaking coolant and even with everything she had managed so far was still producing its full rated output. There had to be another way- this reactor had to be shut down before the coolant supply ran out or it would burn clean through the hull of the ship and contaminate the entire village.

If this had been the designs she was used to, just lowering the rods would have reduced it to only a fraction of its power output and additional safety systems would have been activated by the leak to forcibly shut it down completely by injection of neutron absorbers into the coolant flow.

Somehow it seemed like that wasn't an option here, and the only thing the ship could do with the abundance of power being produced was invest it into terraforming the planet.
"Danu? Are you okay down there? I'm getting readings that there's a bunch of power... Should I try diverting it all to engines?"
"Umbra! Get everyone off this ship, and get it off this planet at all costs! I can't control the reactor- the engine is going to destroy itself in a matter of hours, possibly even less than that who knows how long it has been leaking coolant."

Danu screamed into the radio, her voice sounding distorted from the contaminated atmosphere. The message would come through with bursts of static- radiation pulses from the reactor as it experienced brief surges in power from its damaged state.

She frantically worked with the control panels she had figured out, trying to find anything that seemed similar to an ECCS or core spray system, either of which would result in a rapid decrease in the reactor's temperature. At the same time she was keeping her eyes open for a standby liquid control that would inject neutron-absorbers to forcibly stop the reaction.

Umbra quickly swaps his gloves, portaling everyone but him out as quickly as he can, leaving him rather tired.

Danu had remained on board as well, leaving the reactor controls for the moment and trying to find anything she could use to plug the hole in the containment, slowing the loss of coolant to make sure the ship would reach orbit.

Her motions had become sluggish, wobbling to either side like some kind of zombie. The numbing cold of the ship and the disentegrating effects of such extreme exposures to radiation were having their effect on her body. There was no saving her anymore, she was going to die to save her friends.

>Yes. Her mission has failed multiple times... Each time, she sacrificed herself to bring you to the void...
A new U is born every time, so as to try new possibilities... I suppose in that way, the concept of U is similar to that of the Scribe Theory... The end-goal is different, however... To aim for the best possible outcome...

So... I guess you know about the plan?
>That is correct.<
Great. Tell me what it is!
I've been told to link myself to the G.O. - oh hell with that stupid nickname - the Scribes; like what Samhain did.

>You will see what is next imminently...
Let me take the kid...
I will help her...

>Yes.<
Fine. I don't trust you completely, and normally I'd never trust her to anyone but myself or Enochiah, but you're my best bet now.
>Hm. Yes, I will send her somewhere she can recover...
In the mean time...

My gods...

((Fun fact: The description of the G.O.D. appearing was originally an animated gif of white text in the Indochine font with a shifting black glow around it, but I realized the background was white and looked awful, and that you can't have partial transparency in gifs so I couldn't make the bg transparent without destroying the glow effect. Danu continued her zombie-like march, searching for a steel plate or anything really that could fill the hole and tolerate the thermal and pressure conditions even if only temporarily. Hopefully the others had safely been returned to the village, winter wonderland it was becoming from the ship's uncontrolled terraforming.

By now it had hopefully begun its ascent, the terraforming activity stopped in favor of diverting all power to main propulsion. But with the reactor so badly damaged, there was a very real chance it would lose power and fail to reach orbit, falling back to the surface as an unpowered and radioactive hulk that would cause significant fallout.

The reactor room had been sealed off by a bulkhead door to try and contain the coolant while she searched for repair materials, and she seemed to glow faintly to light her path. Her body was already dead, she was moving by willpower alone now.

Umbra finally reaches the bulkhead, tiredly disappointed and angry at the fact that it's blocking his way.
"No, no no no..."
He takes out the crosslinking tablet and starts looking for a switch...

Umbra quickly swaps his gloves, portaling everyone but him out as quickly as he can, leaving him rather tired.
"Ghah... No, can't fall asleep now..."
He commands the terminal to activate the thrusters, divert all power to them, and lift off.

*the voice takes on a different, familiar tone*

I'm ssorry, Danu.

*the ai now sends a cryo drone through the hole, smashing it into the reactor and freezing it in moments with a ludicrous amount of coolant*

G-g-ooo hommmmme

*the voice returns to normal*

Warning, coolant towers comprimised, terraforming operations cannot resume... recalling drones.
