Rarely are souls compatible with becoming merged into one, and even then there's still the occasional migraine or burning sensations that occur...

well it is my understanding that they display varying levels of self awareness and intelligence so I theorized that they have some sort of analogue cobbled together out of their victims, or they simply aren't created equal, which is a harder byte to process as I have no idea how they're created in the first place.
